Shazam Shazam Spoilers Thread

I am SO glad I missed the Shazam family casting news and toys. I remember watching the movie introduce Freddie and Mary and thinking, “oh, no way they go there.” I wanted them to go there, was hoping they would go there — and then when Billy calls them all to grab the staff I very nearly jumped out of my seat cheering. And not only did the movie go there, it earned that moment. By far my favorite part of the film.

I saw it with a woefully small audience but you'd have thought it was a packed house when that moment happened. I couldn't have been happier.

I was very confused about how I should feel when seeing Meagan Good in a costume and realizing she's playing a 5 year old at the same time, I need the wisdom of solomon

When Shazam was in JSA he had a crush in Stargirl and comic nerds said he can't date her drive he is an adult. (Billy is her age). I think you are good :)

The only thing I really thought sucked was headless Superman at the end.

Why. Even. Bother?

Well Superman is such an integral part in Shazam's history both fictionally and in real life. It had to be Supes.

Headless Supes was a clever way of having him there without showing Cavill. If there’s a sequel I hope Cavill comes back as Supes and has a good amount of screen time. I think DC should treat Superman in the same way Marvel treats Hulk. He’s best with an ensemble cast or with someone to play off with.

I really liked the movie but my only gripe was that I felt billy and Shazam felt like two different characters rather than one. Kid billy was more angsty and morose and adult like but when he turns into Shazam, he’s like a kid...as he should be. Levi did a great job. I feel like Asher should have acted more like a kid to make it more seamless.

Kid Billy had a rough life and he can't really act in a carefree manner but after his transformation which literally looks like a different person he can act more freely with more confidence, in a same way that Spider-Man after putting on a mask and costume can make more smart quips and jokes but when he is Peter Parker he acts in a subdued way. (at least in Raimi movies and in old Spider_man comics.)

I just feel his switch was a 180 in personality. If kid billy had the same personality as Freddy and then he turned into Shazam then it would have been perfect IMO

Of course it's "because comics" but having the two girls "perfect" physique be so normal compared to the guys with their bulging muscles probably wasnt the way to go. Not all of them had to be body builders when transformed, it made it look really unnatural.

I would say it was less than 90 degree (not 180) switch in the personality. In some way, Billy always had that, the way he fooled those Cops in the beginning, took their lunch and how he dealt with those bullies in school, he even laughed at Wizard when the Wizard wanted him to say his name.

But after running away from 7 foster homes and living on streets, he was certainly more "hardened" (for the lack of better word) and was not very quick to make friends, but once he became Shazam, he was able to let go of those insecurities for a while, hence the noticeable change in his attitude.

I liked the cameo despite it being kind of awkward. It was a great note to end the movie on.

But considering how small of a moment it actually was, it just makes Cavill/WB's relationship all the more confounding. They really couldn't convince him to come back for that?

I had the exact same feeling but my guess is Cavill wanted something in writing saying he was 100% getting a MoS sequel, because why show up for this if WB isn't fully committed to bringing him back?

I read something about scheduling conflicts, but that could very well be just an excuse.

I’m reading that was an intentional choice by the director. Being Shazam allows Billy to express a different side of himself, much like how Peter Parker is very shy and reserved but Spider-Man is more outgoing and cracks jokes.

It makes total sense when you think of the character of Billy as well. He is troubled, in and out of group homes since age 4. He has never been settled. His experience as Shazam changed him not just physically but mentally and emotionally.

That was the thing I most wanted to happen. There was a guy sitting 2 seats away from me who was obviously a supergeek who had kept away from news as he was reacting like he just won the lottery and was totally on edge when the moment looked like it might be happening. I am so glad they went with that in the first film.

Superman plays a HUGE role in Shazam becoming a member of the Justice League. He is a father figure (mentor) to Billy. It had to be Superman.

I think the mid credit scenes sets up what could be a great sequel. Could see it go bigger scale with the Seven Realms and the Monster Society of Evil.

He's never coming back.
