Some trades did report all of the adult Marvel Family actors at some point.
Kinda blatant 'open secret' type of news around. Even words about WB showed Marvel Family costume photo at one of their non public presentation, though I forget where.

I mean, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, DJ Cotrona, Adam Brody and Michelle Borth for undisclosed roles. Their looks and number of people already gave it away.

This is why we can find fanwork or photo edit easily online because of those things.
Funko Pop figures just sealed the deal.
But GA or people who didn't follow news about this movie closely might not know that, hence referred it as a twist.

I am SO glad I missed the Shazam family casting news and toys. I remember watching the movie introduce Freddie and Mary and thinking, “oh, no way they go there.” I wanted them to go there, was hoping they would go there — and then when Billy calls them all to grab the staff I very nearly jumped out of my seat cheering. And not only did the movie go there, it earned that moment. By far my favorite part of the film.

The only thing I wish they had explored more were how to actually demonstrate each of the powers of SHAZAM beyond just strength and speed. They didn't really show his wisdom or courage (well except at the very end)

Just watched it and it was very good! The tone was PERFECT for the character. Overall it was a great film but had some continuity kinks in it that could've been worked out a little bit more.

Wasn't expecting to see all the other Marvels show up so that was fun.

The wisdom part apparently is very subtle, like learning how to do stuff and act with wisdom but it's gradual. That's how the book explained it.

I thought the bit near the end when he coaxes Envy out of Sivana was a really good, subtle use of the “wisdom of Solomon” concept.

I think I really put my finger on why I loved this film.

This is a perfectly executed 80s kids movie.

It started off like Donner Superman meets Big. And then it became Donner Superman meets Big meets Ghostbusters. And then it became Donner Superman meets Big meets Ghostbusters meets The Goonies.

(Which is *exactly* what a Shazam family vs Dr Sivana and the 7 deadly sins battle should be like)

This is a perfectly executed 80s kids movie.

Agreed. The Sins were very reminiscent of Ghostbusters I thought that as I sat in the theater.

would have been pretty funny if Aquaman or Wonder Woman showed up though, they just need to change the dialogues earlier from the bullies, and Freddy's bullet souvenirs are from one of WW's blocks

Luckily I don't really have that problem with Michelle Borth, since her character is mentally a mature, college bound 17-18 year old, and her younger form is played by an actress that's 22 anyway.

By the way, what kind of school do they go to where both Mary and Darla attend it? Even if it's one of those combined middle school/high schools, Darla looks way younger than 6th grade.

Set up a nice parallels with Billy's foster family, who always support him and Doctor Sivana's family (his father and brother), who don't have much affection for Dr. Thaddeus Sivana and they constantly belittle him and blame him. Also, Thaddeus Sivana doesn't care for other (including his family) whereas Billy does.

That since Billy doesn't get to face the seven deadly sins (in Rock Of Eternity Cave, which had those Seven Sins as statues) he is never tested whether he is worthy, whether he has pure heart etc, The wizard was dying, so he simply grants Billy the powers but Billy faces those tests in real life, and overcomes them.

Envy: When Billy steals Freddy's Superman Bullet souvenir but later on admits it.
Pride: When he thinks he is better then other foster kids and he doesn't need a foster family as he has real Mom. But when he realizes that his Mother abandoned him, he accepts his foster family.
Greed: When starts using his superpowers to earn money and fame. But Freddie confronts him and says he is no superhero.
Wrath: Billy gets angry at Dr. Sivanna and thinks he can use his anger to fight him and defeat hm.
Sloth: When Billy doesn't care about Freddy and what the school bullies will do to Freddie if Shazam doesn't show up at school as promised by Freddy.
Gluttony: When he takes lot of snacks/food at the store.
Lust: Billy visiting Strip-club (?)
