Shazam Shazam Spoilers Thread

What was Mary's power anyway? I've seen Pedro have super strength, Eugene did the Hadoken, Darla has her speed, and Freddy has flight, I'm not exactly sure what Mary did exactly lol.

Each member of Shazam family had all the powers that Billy had, they simply focused more on powers they liked the most, which is why Pedro was mostly using strength, Darla Speed, Freddy Flight, Eugene lightning, Mary was not shown doing much, so I don't know (*need to see the movie second time*)

It was only a matter of time before David killed his wife in one of his films. :funny:

Did anyone else notice the surprise cameo had red on his sides where the piping was

I might be wrong but think she was meant to have the invulnerability

Saw the movie for second time today. But missed one thing.
Annabelle doll.

One new thing (new for me) I noticed was

How Billy wanted that Tiger when he was a kid, at the fair, while fighting Sivanna, he is thrown into a Carnival Kiosk (pop a balloon) where he gives a Tiger to a kid (obviously a nod to Tawky Tawny), which has obvious parallels to earlier flashback scene of him wanting that toy.

also her looks didn't change as drastically as the rest, was this meant o imply since she was the oldest she had already reached her full potential? but yes, I believe she simple got invulnerability (which also might explain why her looks didn't change, as she wouldn't need over sized muscles or to be taller/stonger/older to use that)

I'm pretty sure they found actors that have at least a passing resemblance to the child actors, and from what I've seen, they all look like they can reasonably grow up to look like them. The older and younger Freddie castings were spot on. I also liked that their ideal prime were all actors between 37-40 (aside from old Eugene).

Someone found this supposed to be an official artwork. If it's truly official, then of course they can't use it for a while. Too spoiler-y.

Great artwork though. :up::

In other news, Star Wars Episode IX trailer was released today, I must be only person on SHH forums who's not interested in either Star Wars Episode:IX or the Avengers Endgame movie.

Me too. :funny:
I like Star Wars but it's not a big part of my childhood, so no attachment or urgency to see a new SW movie. I forget most of TFA and don't watch TLJ yet.

And for Avengers, I didn't watch all of previous movies yet. Endgame is a culmination, so I don't want to watch it while 'incomplete'. Plus, a hyped event movie means full theater. I've always buy ticket walking in (for reasons), long queue is too intimidating.

Hawaii Five-0's Michelle Borth on How She Danced Her Way Into Her Role in Shazam!

Three months later, she got a phone call from everyone on her team, saying, “Remember that really weird audition? That was actually for DC Comics. They’re going to revise Captain Marvel as Shazam, and they want you as Mary Marvel.

“I was like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s fantastic. So when do I read for producers? When do I screen test? When do I go through the process? I want to get ready,’ and they’re like, ‘No, you’re done.'”

The good news didn’t register immediately. It took her team a while to make Borth understand that the role was hers. And when it finally sunk in, she cried hysterically for 10 minutes.

“It was tears of joy, but it was just so overwhelming,” she says. “I had never gotten a role from one taped audition, let alone a five-picture deal with Warner Bros. from a one-tape audition. You always have to go through a really long process. There’s a fight to get there, so it was a really incredible moment. That’s all I can say. It was one of those really magical moments of, ‘Oh, my God. You hear about this sometimes. Every now and then, this happens,’ and that was mine. I did a great dance, an interpretive dance, and had a lot of fun with it, and then forgot, and that was it.”

Shazam has cleaned up at the box office the past two weekends, so while it is too early to say if Warner Bros. will pick up Borth’s option for all five films, there is little doubt she will be revisit her role as Mary Marvel in at least one sequel.

"The cool thing about Mary is the younger Mary, who’s played by Grace Fulton, who’s amazing, is she’s really uptight. She’s a teenager who grew up too fast. She’s almost like a second mother to her foster brothers and sisters, and she has lost the capability of just relaxing, having fun, and letting loose and being a teenager.

So what’s fun for me, I get the best part of Mary, because when we all change into superheroes, we all have different things that we make up for, and for Mary, when she turns into Mary Marvel, she knows how to have fun. She’s got her confidence back. She knows how to let her hair down. She knows just how to embrace life, and she’s not so worried anymore.

We shot a lot and it’s a long movie. It’s an origin film. There’s a lot to put in, so a lot got cut for everybody. What we didn’t see, which I’m sure if we get a sequel, we’ll see, is that when she’s fighting the monsters, she’s taunting them. She’s like, “Yeah, you want more? You want to come back for me? Okay, let’s do this again,” and she’s laughing while she’s punching these monsters out. She’s having a blast and singing, and that’s where the dance stuff comes in.

Now the whole audition makes sense to me because there was no reference before, and now, going back to the audition, it made sense. They wanted someone who acted like a teenager, who could have fun. If we do do the sequel, you’re going to see more of the teenage part of her that we don’t really see in the first one."

So.. thing is, in a world of Super heroes, why was Billy the only suitable person to take on the magic - why didn't the wizard summon Bruce Wayne, Clark, Diana, Barry, Tim/Dick to name a tiny few... also the wizard, he needed a better back story, it felt too convenient and the acting was wooden, i would have preferred they got an older gentleman to act the part... so anyone can be a hero if Billy believes in them and touch the staff? Do the family now have the ability if they shout shazam?

I liked the film, i wasn't wowed by it - the 13 year old me would have been.

I just couldn't get onboard with the DC merchandise for sale in shops - way too meta for me. I could have handled marvel toys 100% but DC superfriends imaginext, of the batcave that comes with alfred toys etc - how do they know all this, secret exposed etc.

I wish the art department customised the toys and made new packaging and it was basically going off what they thought batman looked like etc - i mean, there was a superman toy with red under pants - why? i saw the classic bat signal, why? it was too much for me, which i guess shows i need therapy for OCD.

Anyways the positives are way more - the cast were strong, likeable and i wanna see more. It shows DC is willing to play it safe but still put out a good movie that isn't too generic.

The sequel has to show Shazam interacting with other heroes and how he exactly fits in, after all, shazam isn't a super hero, he is a wizard to protect a realm.

The cgi wasn't bad at all, we weren't left with anything breath taking, but it was good enough. It did feel and i said this before, that money was saved by using older cgi models from other DC movies - like templates - for instance the flight in the city, the up in the clouds, all looked very MOS. The beasts, they looked like manbat demon from BvS and parademons from JL etc maybe aborted Doomsday models. Instead of creating models from scratch i understand why they would or could borrow.

The same reason why the ring picks Hal Jordan instead of anyone else. It’s just the way the story is.

Finally got to catch this movie again since the advanced screening almost a month ago, loved it just as much the second time as the first. Such a wonderful, earnest movie. This really should have came out a Christmas, its a perfect holiday movie. I hope its doing okay enough at the BO to satisfy the suits for a sequel.
