So.. thing is, in a world of Super heroes, why was Billy the only suitable person to take on the magic - why didn't the wizard summon Bruce Wayne, Clark, Diana, Barry, Tim/Dick to name a tiny few... also the wizard, he needed a better back story, it felt too convenient and the acting was wooden, i would have preferred they got an older gentleman to act the part... so anyone can be a hero if Billy believes in them and touch the staff? Do the family now have the ability if they shout shazam?
I liked the film, i wasn't wowed by it - the 13 year old me would have been.
I just couldn't get onboard with the DC merchandise for sale in shops - way too meta for me. I could have handled marvel toys 100% but DC superfriends imaginext, of the batcave that comes with alfred toys etc - how do they know all this, secret exposed etc.
I wish the art department customised the toys and made new packaging and it was basically going off what they thought batman looked like etc - i mean, there was a superman toy with red under pants - why? i saw the classic bat signal, why? it was too much for me, which i guess shows i need therapy for OCD.
Anyways the positives are way more - the cast were strong, likeable and i wanna see more. It shows DC is willing to play it safe but still put out a good movie that isn't too generic.
The sequel has to show Shazam interacting with other heroes and how he exactly fits in, after all, shazam isn't a super hero, he is a wizard to protect a realm.
The cgi wasn't bad at all, we weren't left with anything breath taking, but it was good enough. It did feel and i said this before, that money was saved by using older cgi models from other DC movies - like templates - for instance the flight in the city, the up in the clouds, all looked very MOS. The beasts, they looked like manbat demon from BvS and parademons from JL etc maybe aborted Doomsday models. Instead of creating models from scratch i understand why they would or could borrow.
