Hey, let's play nice or you won't be allowed to play in our sandbox.
We all take these guys seriously, or as serious as is realistically possible.
These were our role models growing up. We all want to say SHAZAM! and become the hero. (We'd also like to do that to kick some crapass around but, well, y'know...) Heck, I'd even settle for a HERO dialthingamajigy.
Bad guys are as good as they are written. I'd love to see a Captain Marvel movie where I can't make up my mind about who I liked more, the hero or the bad guy, or both equally well. A good, well written movie would do that, and it would sell! There are a few movies out there that made the bad guy more popular than the good guy, and a few wheere you didn't care, the actors were that good. And the bad guy was actually a good guy, in a bad guy sort of way. And then there's the Incredibles kind of idiot bad-guy.
The problem we have here is that there are those of us who want the original characters, Billy, the Cap'n, the wizard and Dr. Silvana in the first movie, and those who want the Denny O'Neil '70's Black Adam collection.
I'm from waaayyyy back, so I want Dr. Silvana. It's a more old-fashioned B&W Good vs. Evil thing, whereas Black Adam has some gray-area stuff about him that smacks of Marvel-angst.
I've had enough of that. I want some kick-butt action and I want to hear the Sound of Seven Thunders and see the wonder of a kid becoming a ssuper-hero.
Is that too much to ask for?
