On second thought, Bill Birch sound like he knows, what the hell he's doing.
I have a good feeling about his script, dude gets Captain Marvel.
Can't go wrong with a guy who actually watched the Shazam/Isis Power Hour as a kid.

From what I understand, there is no longer a Captain Marvel in the comics. I think I remember reading that the wizard Shazam stripped the powers from both Billy and Mary and was going to go after Freddy next. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. If this unfortunate turn of events is true, will this have any effect on the (possible) upcoming movie?

I think that Chris Columbus would be a good choice to direct Shazam - Capt. Marvel movie, and taking any Harry Potter director would be fine as long as script is good.

Columbus was never particularly good with large scale action though, so I'd have to say no to Columbus directing SHAZAM.

ugh. I have zero confidence in him as Black Adam, but all the confidence that he is the perfect candidate for Captain Marvel
