Shen: Blades Sidekick...

Just listened to his interview at the above link and he appears to be a real martial artist. Nelson Lee will probably end up being my favorite character on the show, which IMHO is a shame.

Shen is a good character. sure he doesn't compare to Whistler or Scud, but he's the best we're gonna get.

It's too early to say how Shen stacks up to Scud, I think they're gonna slowly develop him. But nobody fades Whistler, I don't care what Shen does.

Well, Whistler performed a wholly different function for Blade and he's dead, besides, so I don't see how it's a competition. I agree, however, that Shen is the best part of the show so far. Or maybe the second-best, after the scenes where Jill Wagner is wearing next to nothing.

if I had to choose between Scud or Shen, I'd choose Shen. since besides the fact that he's providing the weapons, he's really Blade's conscience.

I'd like to know how Blade met Shen. I hate the Night Stalkers in Trinity but it would be cool if Blade pulled him out of one of the Night Stalkers other cells.

I think that Shen is a very strong character on the show, especially after watching Bloodlines. I hope they get him out of the 'lair' more in future episodes. No one wants to be a 'sidekick', but where would your hero be without them.

We are going into episode 6 this week and I feel that they still need to flesh out Shen's character a bit more. His attitude toward's the gambler vamp was very 'interesting'. A bit cocky... and very confident. Granted, Blade was right there.

He has some serious potential to do some great stuff in a stand alone episode or episode arc. So far I'm really enjoying his attitude and he really compliments Blade.

I don't see him as being too hard ass. He's in an environment, where Blade makes things hard as nails on him and he still treats him like a friend. Being around someone like Blade isn't exactly going to make you all bad ass, but he's going to rub off on him slightly.

Besides, we've seen Chin screw up on occasion and he's certainly not the best kind of guy to be in a fight, at least not yet.

I don't think he's TRYING to be a hardass. I literally think he exudes a confidence in his acting ability that outshines what Sticky has done with the blade character so far.


I have no doubt that Wesley's Blade could beat Shen in a fight. IMHO, Shen "looks" like he would give Sticky a run for his money.


If Shen comes off as a hardass I think a lot the blame falls on Sticky.

It doesn't help that Jones looks about the same age or younger than Shen, either. Age helps define who's in charge sometimes. In the movies, Blade was obviously much older than his other young "sidekick" Scud, for example, and he pushed him around like he was a kid. With Jones' Blade and Shen, it feels more like two roommates bickering when Blade tries to push Shen around with the dark & gloomy routine.
