Just signed up for an account on a Runner's forum, but the people are kinda lame so I thought I'd start a thread here...

The purpose being having a thread for people to talk about issues, tips, victories, and obstacles with running.

Any takers?

hahah... um oops. hopefully a mod will change it so i look like LESS of a *****e. ;)

nice! in the last year ive been all about distance, but i finally like 2 weeks ago got to my half marathon goal so I'm gonna start training to get through it a bit faster.

my 10 year old son started track last month. He wants to compete in distance events.BTW My events were the 1,2 and 3 mile runs. 4:39 mile 9:57 2mile and14:59 3 mile

Geez, am I the only one that likes running for long amounts of time, instead of timing a mile?

^ nope... i rarely run for time. I have bad knees do theres only so fast i can go, no matter the distance.

since i can only reduce time to a point, ive focused on increasing distance....

whats your longest run?

No. I like to run, too.

But timing your run gives you a gauge on how good of a runner you are.

And since my career success in part depends on how well I run, naturally I'm going to time myself.

I ran a charity 5K a couple of times, I don't remember my times.

They sucked anyway.

I like ellipticals more though, I used to do 1 hour straight 3-4 times a week before I left college.

The most I've ever run consecutively was a motivated 'Get Lost Run' with my old detachment. It ended up being like 8 or 9 miles.

I run a 5K(3 mile) every other morning, except on weekends.

That's me time.

I love biking and even my elliptical, but the only way I'm actually running is if I wake up in the middle of the woods, naked, with pork chops tied to my neck and I'm surrounded by wolves.

jag

i've got a dodgy knee, so i don't run much, except on the eliptical machine, if that counts... but i ran (or jogged, maybe) on the treadmill at 6 mph for 20 minutes straight yesterday.

i was pretty proud. it demolished any previous record i'd had since i shattered my leg 12 years ago.

I ran track in high school. I usually sprinted in the 100meter races, with my best time being 12 seconds. And my other specialty, the 200, my time was about 27 seconds.

my knees are messed up too, but they can hang in there if i up my mileage slowly over time and stay in shape... and if i don't run too fast or down hills.

Last spring I got really serious about beating my longest distance... previously it was probably 6.5 miles or so.

by the end of the summer I was able to run ~ 10.5 miles. It was a new experience for me because in the past I've been so limited by my knees that I never REALLY felt the rest of my body get sore and ache from runs!

This spring I got back into running (i was run out and took a break between November and March). It was a slow start, but I'm back into the swing of things. I've already beat my distance from last year.

Twice so far I've run 13 miles (the second time I thought I ran farther, but when i drove it to check the distance it was exactly 13 miles... I was pissed). Each time though I had to not run for about 5 days after.

I plan to keep going for that distance until I can do it and some light runs a little sooner after. Then I might go for 15... I'd love to get to 15 by then end of the summer, but even though its just a few more miles it seems impossible right now.

We'll see.
