shooter on the va tech campus

Then why don't you make a thread about it?

There's not a new thread springing up everytime there's a US Soilder killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Does it make their deaths any less signficant.

This has nothing to do with that, Darfur or Virigina. This is about you trying to get on a soapbox to gain some attention to yourself and make yourself feel like you're better than everyone cause you see a bigger picture.

You said your peace here. This thread is about the tragedy in VA. An event people are still just finding out about. Let them discuss it in a thread that was created for the exact same topic.

Go create your own thread.

I'm on topic and have every right to address the excessive media attention the school schooting is recieving.

Yeah it's not up to me. It's up to the media. They decide what are epic tragedies and what isn't. The American public starts crying on cue. That's are far greater tragedy then any school shooting.

Why are people mourning the loss of complete strangers? Because the tv told you too.

Wow. That explains the non-stop Anna Nicole coverage.

your wrong. Darfur is three hundred thousand stories and counting. The VT shooting is 30.

The country is in mourning because two dozen strangers got killed. That's beautiful. The problem is the same country doesn't even blink when genocide takes place. There's something terribly wrong with that. Ants only care about their own colony out of self preservation. Humans should know better than that.

The Anna Nicole story is also another one with unraveling information. It's also one directly related to America itself.

Darfur is not.

We understand it's genocide, and we understand it's a tragedy... But that's exactly what it is, and there's not much to do with America at all, hence why there's little media coverage.

The media is not affected by what blind_fury thinks it should air, so deal with that. It'll air what makes money, and large events in American politics, entertainment, etc.... All of which happen to make the media money. Just because Darfur isn't getting a spot on the news doesn't mean Americans aren't concerned for it. We have both the right by our births and the right as Americans to choose what we pay attention to, get it? Some of us will pay attention to Darfur, but for now, allow us to give our respects to those who have died in the safeties of their own schools and homes.

I made the Darfur thread just for you, so go spread your ignorance there. Babs has already posted links for rallies and such for Darfur, and I'm all for that... But don't be belligerent here simply because you've got outlandish thoughts about how we should all be an image of perfection and worry about every incident there is to worry about. If you're all for Darfur's cause, go for it. Hell, I'd support you on it. But don't be an idiot about it and tell us we're wrong because we're saddened by the loss of our friends and family members.

It was planned to an extent. My main point is 2 sets of minds at work within the same person that we know of. One is planning to live past this act because he filed off the serial numbers. Another is planning a suicide note an killing himself. Why would someone file off a gun number who was planning to shoot himself in the head? The 2 actions contradict themselves.

Who knows? It's possible he could have originally planned to get away with it, as there's word going around that there were apparently numerous bomb and fire threats at VTech lately, during which he'd watch how security handled things...

But once you take that many peoples' lives, my guess would be that suicide looks like nothing to you anymore, as you've done what you "need" to do.

I'm not the one who's disregarding others' deaths by saying that other deaths were more important than theirs'.

I'm not disregarding anyones death. It deserves some media attention. But so does the mass genocide.

And why didn't you do anything to stop the shootings at VT?
The VT shooting was over in matter of hours. The genocide in Darfur has been going on for years and continues as we speak.

I'm not suprised you didn't know that. It's not like it has anything to do with Anna Nicole's baby daddy.

Have fun explaining to God why you did nothing to stop a mass genocide in Darfur.

Your defense will probably be, "well it's not like they attended college in Virginia or anything".

This JUST happened. No **** that the news is covering it and that people care. Darfur has been going on. People know about it.

America has to deal with American's first. As any country would deal with their own first. Murder on homeland is more important than murder on others. It's completely true. Yes genocide is terrible, But so is the murder of 32 college students and teachers.

If you lived in an apartment building, and people were being killed in another building 2 blocks away. Then people were killed on your floor, I think you'd be more interested and concerned about the ones closer. It's human nature.

The average person, can not do anything to stop Darfur, I doubt you are doing anything. So lay off people who care about something closer to home.

People who are planning to shoot up a school aren't always thinking logically. He may have decided on impulse just to take them off 'just in case' with no backup to it. Having read the plays, its clear he wasn't stable. He may have never backed up the 'just in case' with a reason.

Um, if it bothers you, remove yourself from all forms of communication.

I'm spreading ignorance? You're the one defending the overblown media coverage of Anna Nicole over a modern day holocaust.

And don't hide behind the victims families to justify the media's excessive coverage. A couple of dozen people died how many friends and family could they possibly have do require such national mourning and reflection?

You've got your own thread for this. You're well on the way to getting this one closed because you're angling for a fight. In the words of so many great men, bugger off.

Yeah that's the perfect way to address injustice. :whatever:

Its better than your method of "Let me go ***** about how 30 dead people are not worth the time"

I really hope you get run over by a bus.

I'm not defending it.

I'm telling you exactly what the media does.

They air what makes money and what stories are big.

Darfur is not big. It's a civil war. If all you have is, "Fourteen people died in Darfur today," it's not going to make money.

Yes, you're spreading ignorance.

VTech is home. VTech is in America. VTech is ours. A psychotic immigrant took our families and friends.

A psychotic immigrant didn't take our families and friends in Darfur. Darfur isn't home. Darfur is Darfur. Therefore, Darfur does not make media coverage, nor do we pay as much attention to it.

A person who takes the number off a gun is thinking logically. It tells me they looked into the future an saw themselves in it. That he would go back to his room to write a 2 PAGE suicide note for someone who saw themself in the future just weeks ago sounds odd, at least to me.

Did he have a job? Why as a senior was he still living in the dorms? Because he didnt have a lot of money? How could he afford a 600$ gun? Where did the extra clips come from? 50 bullets 32 victims? An english major who hates communicating? What about the 3 years of roomates that he had what do they know about him? He was hardly in his room, where would someone with no friends go for so long?

Lots of questions to be answered.

I'm not angling for a fight.

I made my point intitially not expecting much opposition then 3 to 4 people attacked my assertion that the media attention and national mourning is Jim Jones kool aid.

2 dozen people's death gets round the clock media attention and people all over the country go into deep mourning but the same people don't care about mass genocide? How can people defend this hypocrisy?

Again, you're making assumptions about people you dont know personally and making an ass out of yourself. Stop trolling this thread.

I'm not trolling.

This is the best thread to address the hypocritical media coverage and mass hysteria.

I just finished reading the two stories the killer wrote. They are insane. I can't even really comprehend them, definetly flags of some one harboring alot of anger.

Darfur is a silly name

God save us from the insensitive instigators in search of a snicker.

You kind of just outted your lack of intelligence by calling the name of something that comes from another language "silly".:word:

I'm pretty sure if a man rampaged and killed 32 people on a campus in France, their news would be all over it and not talking about Darfur.
