lazur posts as usual

Untrue. Believe it or not, I've heard Rush and Hannity, and in real life, countless Republicans take Bush to task, or demand some response from a fellow Republican who has screwed up.

I've also heard countless Democrats talking smack about DEm-Leaders, bemoaning lackluster candidates and pissed when Dean went loopy and said ******ed, inflammatory things.

Furthermore, I'm not a Democrat or a Republican, and I don't think he should apologize.

So, again, lazur posts as usual....trying to evade the fact that there's anything more to an opinion than rote adherence to some party line, dismissing any criticism of Bush as the ravings of a brainwashed Democrat who lacks the ability to intellectually analyze events and form independant opinions.

lazur as usual.

Ugh, that's because, in large part, it IS strict adherence to a party line that drives MOST people, including MOST people on this board.

Just because YOU are the exception (as the few "moderates" are on this forum), doesn't mean that it applies whole cloth to everyone else.

Wilhelm as usual

And if you want my honest opinion, he should NOT apologize for what he MEANT. But he should CLARIFY what he meant and apologize to the troops IF they took offense.

But as is typical of John Kerry, the worst representation of a "democrat" democrats have ever chosen as a spokesperson, he shirks the responsibility for actually being a man and doing the right thing.

Hmmm...I must have missed that part in his post. LOL :cwink:

simple thing, Kerry: I would like to apologize to our hard fighting troops if they misunderstood where the direction of the joke was aimed for.

Every component of the military has a higher percentage of high school grads than the civilian population. To claim that he's right is to absurd.

Hmm, it depends on whatever political party you agree with the most. If you're a democrat, HELL no he shouldn't apologize. If you're a republican, HELL yes he should.

and lazur, you're speaking of the majority of people, the majority of the time, and I'm sorry generalizations bug me so much.
But even still, can't you see that it's wAy more likely that, instead of:

"I'm a Democrat, so I'll wait to see what the Democrats say, and then agree with it whatever it is."

it's actually:

"I agree with almost everything the Democrats say. Therefore, I label myself a "Democrat".
?

he did clarify what he meant to say. he admitted that he botched the joke and that he intended to target Bush with it. he should probably apologize for inadvertantly offending anyone by it, though.

So all of the troops in Iraq are uneducated and stuck?
The ones who aren't are just *******s who wanted to kill foreigners.

That's what I mean. He should not apologize for what he meant, but he should apologize (specifically to the troops) for what he actually said.

I still don't understand what he said that should offend "the troops".
At least from the quote I heard on the news last night.

i wonder if the republicans who are up in arms about this also want rush limbaugh to apologize for attacking michael j. fox?

I plan on joining the army after I graduate from college....yes college
He should choose his words more carefully.

No, I don't see that, just as I don't see it from republicans. I think you can have an objective frame of reference, if you want to ("you" meaning someone of a certain political belief, adhering yourself to a particular party, not you personally), but I think that flies out the window most of the time in the face of not wanting to appear weak or appear as though you're conceding to the "other party".

People, MOST people, lose all reasoning in this ridiculous two-party sytem. You're forced to take a side and stick with it no matter what, even through the idiotic actions of its leaders. Just look at the poll on this board, which is most assuredly LEFT - most think Kerry should not apologize even though what he said was a**holish, to say the least. That's blind partisanship. That's blind allegiance to a particular side.

And republicans are the same way. Had Bush said something equally as stupid, you'd have democrats calling for his head and republicans defending him all the way.

The whole thing would be comical if it weren't so damned important.

He should apologise for ****ing the speech up, but explain what he meant.

John Kerry - Senator, Former Presidential Candidate

Rush Limbaugh - Loudmouth Talk Show Host

There's a difference.

When you're an elected official, you're rightfully held to higher standards.

I certainly do!

I know what Kerry meant and I feel as do you that he does need to apologize for what he said (to the troops he offended) not for what he meant.

But to tell you the truth the Limbaugh comments about MJF is far worse than a botched joke IMO.

right, but one was mistake and the other was an attack by an influental pundit. i'm just wondering how the people who are angry at kerry feel about limaugh's comments, since he's on their "side".

I had to read the story twice when it came out just to understand that inane misunderstanding that GOP stumped with.

exactly. where were these people last week when rush said what he said?

Limbaugh apologized already. Kerry didn't. :word:

Limbaugh's wasn't an attack. It was calling out Fox on stopping taking meds which he admittedly does when appearing in public. And I know exactly what you're going to do: Michael J. Fox video, DID YOU SEE IT? DID YOU SEE IT? Yeah I did. And I look at that as nothing but backtracking especially when he's already admitted to not using meds when appearing in public. You can't back off from the fact that what a senator said holds presidence over a pundit.
