Great start for Superman and the DCU. The legs are going to be really interesting and the second weekend should get a boost with a good critical rating, WOM, and A- CinemaScore before F4. The overseas numbers are worrisome. I hope Superman can crack $700-715 mil WW and get into The Batman's ballpark, but depending, $625-630 mil WW may be the realistic range from these early initial numbers.
Unless it has really good holds domestically, it's going to struggle to 600m with these OS numbers. Right now, 250m OS looks like a good benchmark.

FF is going to do well. Probably similar BO to Superman, which is fine. I think we're getting sequels to both.
F4 will be a good test to see how much Superman's overseas numbers is it and how much is superhero fatigue.

The OS numbers could have so many factors, including the geo political. But F1 and JW are doing rather well. Not all time, but much better then Superman. I do wonder if there is a centering of a very specific type of America in this movie that could... let's say not play well to the rest of the world who is having to deal with us at the moment.

I remember all the talk with Cap starting with TFA, and while it definitely put a cap (see what I did there) on his series, they never felt as pointed in their material as this. Even TFA with it's very rah-rah WW2 feel. TWS and Civil War very much give Steve a lone wolf, stuff ain't okay here feel.

Listen it may not hit the big shiny number that everyone wants, but this movie also has the daunting task of following a decade+ worth of brand killing material

As long as it breaks even and rejuvenates enthusiasm for the character again (which it appears to be doing) it will suffice as good first step.

This is exactly what Batman Begins had to do after the mid to late 90s

TFA struggled outside the US, but come TWS and CW, Cap was fine. I do think Superman specifically might be fighting that "American Way" or "Americana" backlash right now considering real world events, but come the sequel if Superman gets good WOM, maybe this won't be as much of an issue.

The issue is the WOM OS is not good. It's meh to bad in most places. Even Mexico is coming in light. I think the only place really repping is Brazil. It's why the weekend estimates kept going down.

I'm more talking about WOM once it hits digital and such. Like I said with Cap, it wasn't until TWS that people who skipped it went back and watched it, and I have seen so much more love for that movie in the last 5-10 years than when it first came out.

This has been such a rollercoaster. It’s a constant flip flop between crushing and flopping. Hoping it hits 600M but OS just doesn’t seem to care.

Is it superhero fatigue? Political climate? Competition? All 3?

The Avengers happened. Steve became beloved. It was a popularity that rose all tides. Right now I'm honestly at a loss. I did not expect this OS stuff. Thought it would be light but this is something else. I'm not sure how you build a rep OS with this. It's not people just ignoring it. It's people rejecting it and telling others to not see it. Like the exact opposite of the domestic situation.

I don't know. Guess we'll see what happens.

It's not flopping or anything. Domestically, this movie is doing well. But internationally, not as well. Both can be true at the same time. Regardless, I do think it's getting a sequel.

The international numbers being low can be many factors. Probably a mix of several of them. I do think it will be interesting to see how the global tally compares to FF when it hits.

There could be a dozen other reasons with Superman/DC.

I feel like the political climate has to be affecting this to some extent. “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” is a tough sell to anyone not American/a huge fan of Superman right now imo.

International is absolutely worrisome. It is doing extremely bad overseas. But yes, the kicker in the States could be legs, WOM, good reviews, and audience score doing a solid second weekend without competition. This second weekend is pretty big as far as BO. In the end, I do think it will cross $600 mil WW, but yes, it could prove difficult as of now.

I think for the sequel it needs more of
Clark and Lois,
Much more DP with those characters,
Clark and lois actually doing investigative reporting,
Have it be not so jarring from scene to scene,
Definitely bring back Lex,
More krypto,
Have a villain that the fans have been begging for, brainiac
And make it 15 to 20 mins longer.

That film will be the one that makes the 800 mil +.

I think for the sequel, I would personally like to see Superman and Supergirl team up and face Brainiac. Make it kind of a Superman Family type affair. Throw in Streaky, Comet, all of it! James Gunn can go wild there. Also, absolutely more Clark in the movie.

I don't wanna see brainiac be a one off villain either. He needs to have an over reaching feel in all the films.
Kinda like how Thanos was.
Each MCU film had their own villain with a beginning and ending story, but you knew Thanos was coming.

38 Saturday, 125 for the weekend, per Charlie Jatinder. Likely 300-350 domestic total when all is said and done. OS not so good. OW around 90, weak WoM. Might struggle to get to 200.

A pity about overseas. They are missing out on a great experience.
The studios reaction towards them could be to stop spending so much money on marketing toward them.
We shall see.

People saw it. They just aren't liking it and aren't recommending it. The number is shockingly similar to Thunderbolts and BNW.

$300-350 domestic would be an absolute win, regardless of overseas tanking. To get past $300 mil would be a nice feat for Superman to perform here domestically. That should be the goal/ eyes set on that.
