If P:WZ dies critically and bombs at the box office, I'd say Lionsgate wouldn't mind saying goodbye to the Punisher. If that's so, should Marvel's movie studios attempt to buy his rights back?
Marvel won't make R-rated movies. But after seeing Casino Royale again last night, I got to thinking... Punisher probably would work in PG13/14A. That movie had tons of kills, including ones with nail guns, drownings, etc. There was a torture scene. However, it was all done in a way that kept it from going R.
With the exception of MAX, Punisher has never been R-rated as a comic. I think it COULD work. What's more, Marvel would be able to funnel in more money in, and hopefully legitamize the franchise.
Now hopefully P:WZ will do great. But if it doesn't, does anyone else here feel that this would be a good next step? Or should we just wait 4 more years for a new R-rated, low-budget attempt?
