I hope Lionsgate loses the Punisher rights back to Marvel.

Artisan doesn't exist anymore.

Isn't Carolco just C2 Productions now?

I thought Carolco went bankrupt. I always want Punisher movies to have that kind of Predator / Terminator/ Total Recall Aliens feel. You know?

hmm

saw this on Wikipedia..

The assets of Carolco were later sold off to other companies, most already sold during Carolco's existence. Today, the ancillary rights to a majority of Carolco's library are held by French production company StudioCanal, while CBS Paramount Television holds the television rights, and Lions Gate continues to hold the home video rights (via a new output deal with StudioCanal). The only Carolco films not included in the deal are Cliffhanger, Aces: Iron Eagle III, Last Of The Dogmen, and Showgirls, the rights to these have been retained by their original theatrical distributors (TriStar, New Line Cinema, Savoy Pictures/HBO, and United Artists, respectively).

The thieves from Carolco started C2 after bankrupting the original company and raping all the investors with huge bonuses, humongous perks, etc...All at the expense of shareholders. Vajna and his pal can go "F" himself. When I was 18 I had $10,000 invested in that company when they had the rights to Spdierman w/James Cameron directing, they had the Rambo films, Cliffhanger, Total Recall, Universal Soldier, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers, and every freaking awesome film released back them...and they lost money. :( I'm still sour over that scam.

Artisan, now Lionsgate, owns most of those rights including the Rambo films.

Punisher is isolated at a Studio with no other significant Marvel characters and at a studio that only makes low budget films. It's like Punisher has handcuffs on.

I think the studio doesn't need to spend millions to make Punisher a great movie. Having a tiny budget is the poorest excuse when describing Punisher. Most of the action in Punisher isn't CGI massive or requiring huge sets to be demolished either.
What Punisher needs is an awesome script by Ennis, a capable director like Antoine Fuqua. Lose Thomas Jane, he's the Keaton of Punisher.

How about you have a coke and a smile and shut the **** up?

Ennis needs to write the comic and that's it.
Tom Jane is what Bale is to Batman and Jackman is to Wolverine. He is the Punisher. You need to lay the **** off the crystal meth.

CGI isn't the only thing that increases your budget. Good talent, better location, better sets, better props, etc... Even the opening credits were done "on the cheap" to save room for the movie. I loved The Punisher as a fan but it deserved more money. I'm not saying 100 million and I'm not saying CGI...I"m saying write the proper script, hire the proper talent, and pay what it takes to film it.

Marvel taking back movies right to the Punisher and giving it a $100+ Million budget would be a huge mistake.

^ Who the hell here is saying 100 million dollar budget? In fact I've been saying the opposite. Marvel getting the rights back would be awesome. Less money spent on licensing rights and middle men and more for the budget and the talent. 100 million isn't needed. 33 million wasn't enough especially with Travolta's budget vacuum. Even without Travolta it felt like they were cutting corners throughout the film. Only Tom's performance and the story led me to enjoy this film. It deserved at the very least an Elektra size budget or even a Blade Trinity sized budget.

It's funny everyone is complaing about Travoltas paycheck, but no one knows for sure what he got paid. He could have done it on the cheap and hoped to get something on the back end. I highly doubt Travolta got a huge paycheck.

^ The budget was 33 million. Travolta took at least 10 million of that.

Are you positive? Do you have proof of his payday?

If you put me on the stand...I'd swear by it but I have have no physical proof of his payday. At the time there would have been no need for him to take less and he knew the budget was small and it was a rated R film that most people haven't heard of so know way he would have gone for a % of the gross only. Usually you get a certain amount against a % of the gross. He never dipped into the gross, and he wouldn't be stupid enough to think Punisher is gonna make 300 million to make a riskier bet on it.

I believe I read somewhere he did do it on the cheap....like 5 mil or less...

Hostel? Are you people F'n serious...that movie was terrible...get off tarantino's jock for 2 seconds and think about hostel again....oh wait, most of you are little kids and seeing 160 different sets of boobs in 1 hour makes a great film....

Tarantino I like. His homages and references are usually done in creative and cool ways. When Roth does it it just seems too blatant.

I can't stand Tarantino and I think Hostel is a good horror movie. Better than that Japanese crap that is supposed to be scary and the only thing it is, is friggin' boring. That being said, Eli Roth is not a good choice to direct the Punisher.

Its not even scary...I just dont get it...unless you like boobs (which is why god invented porn) I cant see whats so great about hostel....

I booed the hell out of the crap that was Hostel after that poor excuse for a horror film ended in the theater. What a waste of 2 hours of my life. I could have had more fun just watching porn for an hour and then switching to almost any OTHER horror film for another hour. Tarintino, however, is one of my favorite directors and a true talent. Too bad he sponsors such absolute crap.

As far as Punisher, Tom Jane is definitely THE PUNISHER. No doubt. Budget-wise, I'm sure P2 will get significantly more cash flow. LGF did a fantastic job with the first film so why even consider taking the franchise from them now?

Well LGF might not even be focused on a sequel. The Punisher was not a big success for them. I could see it going to another studio. But I really hope that doesnt happen.
