Should Marvel take a "break" like dc?

Well there WAS a direct Marvel slam in IC that was freaking hysterical.

Alexander grabbed two Earths whose numbers equaled 616 and destroyed them a moment later in digust.
:p
That was funny, though he killed Superman and Superman jr. and Batman and Batman jr.:(

Marvel has always been tragic, gritty and realistic (harry osborn drug thing). DC has been simplistic and silly and COMPLICATED. marvel defines their alt universes and theyre always distinct, where as DC seperated their heoes worlds and so were forced to throw them together to gain a universe that can even begin to compare to Marvel 616. this in itself makes marvel best. make mine marvel!

and to me Infinite Crisis was one big dig at marvel.
1) They produced four minis that dealt with Magic(Vengeance), Space(War) and Villains(Villians)...three subjects that the Marvel Universe hasnt had in awhile.
2)Had the Major villain who wanted to retcon the DC universe into his vision at the cost of all else(sounds a little like JQ to me).
3) The series had consequences that effected everyone...while House of M had consequences that effected...mutants. Spider-man was the same after HOM as he was before it.

Why didnt you mention OMAC, oh thats right Checkmate is a SHIELD rip-off.;)

P.S. I dont really believe what I just said, its called trying to make a point.

Thats rubbish. DC has turned out many tragic, gritty and realistic stories. Judging by your other posts I can see I'll be wasting my time telling you to actually read some DC comics before slagging them off, but you should.

Try out the Green Lantern/Green Arrows stories from the 70's (that dealt with many social issues including drug mis-use, racism and imperialism).

Check out Batman year one or the Dark Knight returns, or the Killing Joke, check out Arkham asylum, swamp thing

thats just the Superhero books...what about sandman, constantine ??

spidey fans are evil...

Heh. Come on over to the Spider-Man Comics Forum here...and find out first hand. :o

Right, so if anyone prefers Marvel and says anything negative about DC he's a Marvel Zombie. Well there's also a term I like to call "DC ****e." The internet is filled with them, which is strange because it doesn't really add up in sales.

We already know what it's like with two Spider-Men running around. And the consensus of Spider-Man fans couldn't stomach an exact replica of Peter Parker replacing Peter Parker.

Are you trying to argue the point or agree with it? The clone saga was ridiculous and stupid, and I'm EXTREMELY glad they retconned it. But I suppose DC fans would love such a story. As long as it was labeled a "crisis" and a Flash died.

Can't wait for Wolverine of Earth 2 and Golden Age Ironman to make their appearances in the 616.

I will say this though . . Superboy Prime was awesome.

I was just stating that there were two Spider-Man during the Clone Saga. Spider-Man fans flipped out and couldn't take that the exact replica of Peter Parker was replacing PETER PARKER!

And if Spidey fans can't stomach that...then they're not going to stomach Peter Parker being replaced by a stranger, etc. That's what I was saying.

However, I enjoyed the Clone Saga thoroughly and loved Ben Reilly and hated that he was killed because, as someone in the thread said earlier, Spider-Man fans are evil, heh. :) Kidding, of course...or AM I?!?

It's because they were basically saying that all the stories you've read over the last years (been a while, wasn't it like a decade?) with Spiderman did not actually feature the REAL Spiderman! What is that crap!? Ugh. Terrible move. Even worse than Azrael/Batman.

Sales are not an indication of overall quality. :o

By the way, my pull list has as many Marvel titles as it does DC, so yeah....

i love the way ur slagging off a marvel fan on a marvel board. i used to read DC. i found the ones i read either childish or annoying. itsa personal preference so frik off. im surrrre theyre great, but itsa fact DC has the majority of "capes" and marvel always went for a more trajic, gritty angle. just becos u can name a couple where thats not true doesnt mean that (classically at least) it wasnt a valid point.oh and uk stu, dunno what i did to u, but thanks for not gettin personal u
****
. what was the point in that??

i read top cow, marvel and image. Am interested in boom!studios and loved the abc stuff i've read on the net so pllllease dont label me. i think i made a good point and i was just defending a company that i think has done a lot of good over the years.

Well, I can't argue that. That's definitely hard to take. But Ben Reilly was the same exact version. He didn't have those memories of the other battles Peter had...but that's what would have made things fun and kept Peter Parker in the stories, Ben consulting him about certain villains he's never faced.

I was reading the books when they were coming out and fighting with people everyday about the books, heh. I was the ONLY ONE of my friends who liked the Clone Saga and Ben Reilly.

These days you do see a lot of people show Ben Reilly love. But I showed Ben Reilly love when it WASN'T cool.

And there are DC ****es and Marvel zombies, etc. Nothing wrong with those though. Everybody has a preference. But some people just buy what they like and it turns out a lot of people are digging more DC lately, why? Because DC has a lot of great books out with a lot of great talent as well.

I read more Marvel than I do DC. But 4 years ago I wasn't really reading any DC at all. And now my DC titles are catching up with my Marvel titles. So, it's really all about quality and who's doing good things with the characters.

The Infinite Crisis stuff was not only just to have a big event and clean things up...but to introduce people to the other characters of the DC Universe. The B-listers and C-listers, D-listers.

52 focuses on all small characters in the DC Universe and it's probably the most interesting thing I've read from DC. Who would have thought that Steel, Elongated Man, Montoya, The Question, etc could be interesting?

I wasn't making it personal, but you sure have with that uncalled for comment - you realise name calling just reinforces my point. So now you've changed your story - in your orginal post you stated "DC has been simplistic and silly and COMPLICATED" - now its only the the DC titles you have read. My point was your comment was incorrect and I justified it by naming a number of 'realistic' 'gritty' DC titles, and I could name a lot more. If you're going to make stupid sweeping statements, make sure you know what you're talking about. And learn to take some comments and criticism, this is a forum for discussion or debate, my comment wasn't aimed at you personally, it was a response to the comment you posted and I would have sent the same message to anyone who posted the same thing.

I personally am not a big fan of cosmic storylines. Hell I hated the whole IC while all my friends liked it. Dont get me wrong I dont hate DC, I was reading Batman/Green Lantern/Teen Titans/JLA before IC and I am still reading those titles after IC (still waiting for JLA to show up), but I hated the whole IC thing. Stories like that just seem so convulated and overcomplicated. I am sure Vengence/Villans/OMAC and War were nice mini's (my friends seemed to like them) but I thought it was a bit of an overkill especially with every other comic dealing with IC. I could never get into reading CoIE and the same goes for IC. I just wait till the whole thing is over and done with and then get the cliff notes from my friends or the net. I mean who can keep up with all the changes that are made at the end of this events and who even wants to. I dont care what the rest of the DC universe does, all I need to know about is what affects the books I read, and so far the only major difference for me has been the death of Superboy and Kid Flash loosing his power.

Now when it comes to Civil War, I am a bit more optimistic as long as they keep the story down to earth and we dont have to deal with anything on a cosmic level. Even so I dont think I will be getting every comic with a tie in to Civil War, I will just keep to those that I feel add to the story. I was not even going to bother with the whole Civil War: Front Line because I thought it was going to be about nothing more that lesser known superheroes clashing, but after reading the first issue I have completely changed my mind and it looks like it will be a nice angle to the whole Civil War (I just hope that it continues in the direction it started). As long as Marvel does not use this event as a method to retcon the universe (which seems unlikely) I think I can enjoy it.
