Should Marvel take a break?

In a word, no.

Should they put a hold on making sci-fi movies in case the genre goes stale? Horror movies? How about comedies? Think of how many bad movies get released in those genres but nobody says 'I think they better ease up a little', because you also get very, very good movies in the package. Sure, the law of averages means that Marvel surely must make a couple of stinkers along the way, but the pros far outweigh the cons - having Marvel produce stuff at the rate they are going it only good for us - just think of the characters and stories we could see realised on-screen; theres a wealth of material to draw from so there should never really be a danger of the genre going 'stale'.

Kind of depends on what kind of category within the genre you talking about. There are different forms of horror films. Slasher films have played out several times in the past. Or Zombie and Supernatural Paranormal films have been popular at different times. There are many different comic book films too and Marvel Studios has only focused on superheroes so far.

There's no question Marvel is the king of superhero movies right now. They make consistently entertaining movies. They're expanding into the TV world.

However, the next few years, we are going to see an even larger number of CBM movies with DC and Fox increasing their outputs. I'm not going to use the word "fatigue" word, but would it benefit Marvel to take a year off from the movies?

Part of me thinks that they are at such an accelerated pace now, there won't be much newness in terms of story in another 5 years. I think a good model to look at is Pixar. They too were the king for a few years. Then they made a few less than well received sequels. They took a couple of years off, and now everyone's excited they have a new product coming out again. It might benefit Marvel to do the same in the long run.

Are you asking or are you telling?

Should they? Yes.
Will they? No. They're making lots of money.
What else is there to do, then? Allow more creativity aka Edgar Wright fiasco was not a step in the right direction. Giving Infinity War to Russos instead of Whedon was.

With the movie slate that DC has coming out, DC might make Marvel take a break. You never know.

DC changes there mind more than a chick during that time of month. It's not written in stone with those guys. As long as Marvel keeps up the variety, they should be fine. It's Fox that needs to stop. :argh:

Why exactly does Fox need to stop now?

This would effectively mean that a generation of kids grows up without new Marvel content. Why do that?

If only Marvel could make a movie as good as the last X-Men movie. They sure didn't do it with the Avengers.

Why would they settle for making a movie as good as DOFP, when they can make movies that are *better*? Because IMO, the last three MCU films have all been better than DOFP. DOFP really doesn't hold up to either repeat viewing or significant critical thought, and relies *waaay* too much on the strength of a handful of actors rather then either deftness of writing or quality of spectacle.

Any movie that relies on the quality of their actors is probably a good movie. Sorry, "it's actors are doing a great job" is never an insult.

I like TWS better and the first Avengers is roughly on par (I haven't seen the second yet), but I don't see the need to knock either side on this. They all made quality, critically liked films.

After The Infinity War ends. There is no topping that.

I would not blame them. Dofp is one of the best ou there. Imo, MCU's best film isnt even that good as Dofp. And after Dofp, there's still X2 and First Class which are also better than the most recent Mcu film.

If only Fox could make a movie as balanced as the Avengers movies or GOTG. They sure didn't do it with ANY X-men movie. I still haven't seen a major Marvel character like Cyclops done justice. That speaks volumes to me.

I liked Days of Future Past, but Guardians of The Galaxy is so much better.

I'd put all 11 MCU films ahead of the last X-men movie. In a heartbeat. There's a reason DoFP is basically just Franchise Management: The Movie.

I liked Guardians, WS and AoU more than DoFP but I like X-men First Class movie than every single MCU movie to date.

It would be fiscally irresponsible for Marvel to take a break. That said, if you're not feeling it, no one is forcing you to not wait for the DVD.

After IW Marvel should take a break from all out 'got to top the last movie' mentality and concentrate on more focused self contained movies. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Avengers 4 being the Avengers against The Master of Evil.

I just think there is a real danger of the general audience getting tired of the genre until you keep giving them things that are new and fresh rather than the same thing but just bigger. I think AoU suffers from being too chaotic so you can only guess how jam packed IW is going to get.
