Clark Kent becoming Superman, flying and wearing the suit and all, and fighting a returned, and maybe wearing the superpowered battle suit, Lex Luthor? Becuase, no matter what they do (Doomsday in S8, Zod in S9), all of these seasons have dealt with Clark's destiny, but also, dealt with the revelation in S2 where the Indinan story over a hero (Kryptonian, I think) and his enemy who was his friend, paralleling Clark and Lex. Wouldn't be fitting to end the show, with Superman in costume of course, but also with him fighting Lex, as the final step, final battle, final period, of the entire show and what we've been dealing with since it started?

ideally lex would come back and face superman for my dream finale

I've always thought the finale of Smallville should be something somewhat similar to the Lois & Clark pilot, obviously not exactly the same but a similar general idea.

I'm not really fussed either on whether we ever see a full shot of the suit, I would settle for a shirt rip into the camera ala Reeve in STM.

well i bet michael R would be willing to return for series finale. He pretty much has said it in the past, that would be ideal for him.

Either way, I think he should suit up in costume in this season's finale. I know they said from the start "no flights, no tights", but did they really expect the show to last 10 seasons at that point? This is not the same show it used to be, it should really be called "Metropolis" at this point. I think if the show goes for a 10th season Clark should be in a costume that at least resembles the classic suit, and they can stop calling him the blur, and just call him Superman. Let the 10th (and probably last season) be a pay-off to the loyal fans who have been teased for the last decade. At first the approach may have been fresh, but at some point it's going to work against the show to delay the inevitable progression of the story for too long (some would argue they've already reached that point...)

As far as him putting on the classic suit and flying off as the final scene in the series, I think that'd be a waste. People have been speculating about a scene like that ending the series for years, so why not go above and beyond, and take it one step further? If they're going to show him in costume, why not give the long suffering Superman fans out there one memorable fight scene in costume at least. Since we were deprived of that in Superman Returns, and the next film is stuck in limbo, they'd do well for themselves to send the show off with something that's never been seen before - Superman fighting a supervillian with modern special effects.

As far as lex is concerned it's all about Michael Rosenbaum IMO, I'd love it if he came back, but I wouldn't be cool with a recast.

I've come to the conclusion, that Clark in costume, may not happen. Not with action atleast.

in Byrne, when Clark is outed/outs himself, he is wearing jeans and a t-shirt... and it is not until after he is exposed, that he gets his costume...ie. Clark in costume being the final shot(not scene, shot) of the series (we don't actually get to see him being super in the costume, maybe just a fly away). He shouldn't wear the costume until after Lois has gifted him with his moniker, which must definately be after Clark's primary exposing outing as a super-human in public, and after what I'm assuming will be the climax of the final episode.

I can live with that.

I just want it to be awesome. I don't care about the details, just as long as it is good. The costume is pretty much irrelevant IMO. For the purposes of the show, if they were, or were not to use the costume (vs. getting on finale shot of Clark in the costume) I'm indifferent at this point.

on the thought of the costume, do you guys think Clark will go back to being the RedBlueBlur before becoming 'Superman', or will he continue on as DarkBlur til the series finale?

It's a matter of taste IMO, but I'm assuming that when he re-adorns his primary colors, he should be becoming Supes for the first time: ie. make his color change significant (ie. embracing his human side)

I am hoping that if it goes to a 10th season we get to see the costume for more than a few minutes. Like a poster said above. The no flights no tights motto was before the show started and in their wildest dreams that the show would last this long. They were probably hoping for 2 or 3 seasons tops.

I also think its imperative they get Michael back for at least a couple of episodes at the end. And this shot should be in the show (Supes outside Lex's office windos)

Ideally???
By Clarks request Martian Manhunter takes a deep look into his mind/past and then takes of on a journey to mind wipe everyone Clark has come across that stands a chance of recognizing him once he puts on the suit.
This of course includes the ones at the Daily Planet as well as Lex and Lois.
Season 10 of Smallville is renamed Metropolis and we finally see SUPERMAN.
For the last season the shows budget is HEAVILY increased and they do justice to the classic imagery a show about superman requires.
In past seasons the confrontations between Clark and the villains usually took place in remote areas or at night where no one saw Clark use his abilities, whereas now the battles will take place in broad daylight in the middle of Metropolis for everyone to see, and Clark/Superman will have to deal with this, for better or worse, as people will eventually get tired of these super-powered people causing such extreme damages to the city, which will take a somewhat toll on Clark.
Perry and Jimmy will be introduced into the show, Clark is by now a professional reporter and we follow him as he and Lois do their investigations throughout the city while Superman himself will deal with the season bad guy which will be non other than the only major villain left he still hasn't encountered on Smallville, Darkseid. Through out the season he will face many smaller villains led by Darkseid to test the limits of his physicality to see just what kind of obstacle this Superman will be to his plans of World domination. Lex will of course be a major part of the season as he finds himself fascinated by this incredible being, but is also overcome by a compulsion to destroy him for obvious reasons, which will eventually lead into a major fight.
Season 10 finishes off with what is the most fantastic series finale ever with Superman taking on Darkseid by defeating his army and kicking his rocky ass back to where he came from.
He takes a final flight through the clouds, smiles at the camera Chris Reeve style and cut to Black.

Or... at least something like that, as this is only a rough idea I just came up with.
I know this will never happen, but a guy can dream can't he?

Yes... I agree. Best last shot one could ask for. But we wouldn't see him in the getup until this little encounter (it'd have to be the blur up to this point to really make the costume significant). Especially if it's the same banter: 'I'll be watching you' and then the money shot flyaway.

Seriously... the last shot of the series (or one of the very last, depending on what's best for the story) needs to be Clark flying. In the costume. I don't care if anyone thinks it's unrealistic or unlikely. I demand it. ;)

My dream finale would be the return of Lex.

The way I see it is we find out that Lex is alive and well, but he has also forgotten who Clark is. The finale episode should have the making of the Super suit by Martha, it needs the holographic image of Jor-El talking with Clark in costume. As the finale seen you'd see Lex standing at the window of the newly renamed LexCorp and you see Superman fly by.

i dont think mindwiping the whole world would be the best way to go about clark's identity and all that.
