Lets face it. The Superman fanbase is segmented and divided; There are hardcore precrisis fans, strong Donner fans, vocal postcrisis fans, Timmverse fans etc...

Singer based SR off the Donner films and strongly appealed to the fans of that interpretation.

He said at the con that SR was the end of the Donnerverse, and the sequel begins the Singerverse;

"He also noted that in the next movie he should be able to incorporate more contemporary aspects from the comics. "I'm very respectful of that," he said."

Contemporary? Does that mean the next film will have a strong post-crisis basis?

I like that hes open to trying new things here. Maybe it has something to do with Donner and Geoff writing Action Comics now. His interest in the post-crisis stuff and Brainiac (since Donner is into Brainiac) may have increased.

He mentioned the sequel wont be romance centered and will have some great Sci-fi sh^t ...

What do you guys think about that?

Having a strong Post-Crisis basis? I dont think so. There will be more elements from the modern Superman but I dont believe he will go all out Post-Crisis in the next film.

I would love to see a mix of the Donnerverse and Post-Crisis elements. In other words, Singer should take the Donner origin and the Donner Krypton and expand on the mythology using Post-Crisis ideas.

Imagine they tie in Brainiac, the Eradicator, or even Darkseid to the Donner Krypton. Imagine Marlon Brandon as Jor-El talking about any of these villains in relation to Krypton in the FOS hollograms. Endless possibilities.

Ya, I've always wanted Brainiac to appear Crystal Krypton-based and look somewhat like the TAS version. I think that would be amazing.

They should continue to evolve the characterization, sure. But it shouldn't just be "Oh, let's do Post-Crisis Superman now" - it should be gradual thing, pretty much like it was in SR. At least that's what I think.

I want to see a more post-crisis feeling movie, but that doesn't mean I want them to magically bring back Pa Kent and move the fortress to the Antarctic etc. I just want it to "feel" more modern amd more like the recent comics and even BTAS. There's no reason the world that Singer's set up can't evolve that way.

They need to take what they have and give it an upgrade with the current comicbooks. It could work, not a hard task. It's very easy to imagine Spacey's Lex becoming the Lex Luthor of today.

The elements are there, its just that the outlook on the movie needs to be different.I would say no child next time.

The problem with losing the kid is that they might upset a major demographic.
The demographic that spends the most ;)
The young LOVE the idea. So they cant cut him out of this one completely. They will need to show him develop a little or they will disapoint those that they hope to make the most money on by reviving the franchise.

Superman has been constantly evolving in comic books for almost 70 years, I think that's what Bryan Singer is trying to translate into his movies, and so far I think he's done a fine job. Let's just hope he doesn't blink.

We're stuck with the kid, but that doesn't mean it can't be handled well.

No-one wants to see Superman and son going off on adventures. Frankly I think the Kid should just "be there" growing up, and not have anything to do with Superman's goings on and should never be part of the action with villains etc.

Killing the kid would make SUperman un-neccessarily "grim and gritty" and I don't think it's likely to happen - but I think Richard's got a red shirt with his name on it - he's going to go out doing something heroic.

So yeah, you could evolve the current state of affair into something like the modern comics/ STAS, but... with Lois having a kid.

Yeah.. I voted "no", but I really didn't like either response. The post-crisis universe is more interesting, but I don't think they should power down Supes like they tried to do in post-crisis.
