The Force Awakens Should the Sequel Trilogy bring back the Old Characters?

Hard to believe Christopher Lee was in his late 70's early 80's when filming Star Wars and LOTR. He looked like he was in his late 40's during those roles.

I just want Luke to be a mysterious, mystical figure to the young cast like Ben was in ANH. Making him Mr. Family man would kind of detract from that IMO.

The more I think about this the more I like it. It follows up very nicely from where Luke goes in Jedi and ends up. I don't really see him becoming a family man when I see him at the end of the last film. Him taking after Kenobi and Yoda in leading the new Jedi order makes a lot of sense considering they were the ones that trained him.

I feel like if they bring back the old characters and make them the main characters again id be disappointed. They're too old.. I wouldnt mind seeing a remake of the original trilogy though.

If the main 3 actors from the old trilogy return, I hope its in a small role. I think the new movie needs more youthful leads

Too old. Walks with a cane, too. He'd probably do it if Chewie had no action scenes, though. But nothing's certain. I'd have one of the old characters who is fit enough, in-universe, to run around and do stuff.

All Mark has to do is hit the gym, get that chin tuck they always advertise on tv, keep his hair dyed and go on a full fledged Vegan diet.

I'm just worried about his voice... so i advise no screaming for the next couple years... mark stay FAR away from halo 4.

Although I think he looked pretty bad in Chuck, I don't think there's any problem with him playing Luke. It's not like anyone's expecting Luke to be the piece of hunk to attract the ladies for Ep7.

I agree with you on the OT, but I'd love nothing more than to see Episode I-III remade. Not now, but maybe in another 10-20 years.

I always felt Luke took after Obi-Wan more than Anakin.That's not to say he didn't have a romance or two on the side,but I don't see him settling down to raise a family in the past 30 years.

I like the old school jedi rules.(Duty before passion and all that.)I hope they stick to it,and I'm guessing they will.

My problem with the Old Jedi rules and I think this has been implied with how the story turned out is that the Jedi were too controlling over their own matters and became so detached from themselves that it eventually became one of the reasons why they fell to begin with.

If Anakin didn't feel so bottled up and pressured by the strict rules that the jedi order had and actually allowed their Jedis to be treated as sentient beings, then Anakin wouldn't have always gone to Palpatine for support.

If the Jedi Order or whatever remains of it in the sequel trilogy is exactly like the old one when it comes to its structure, then it feels like that they haven't learned anything from the past.

I've been playing the Star Wars MMO for a bit, and there are story parts where it says that neither the Jedi nor the Sith way is the right way, but a combination of both. And I think it's the best way too. Especially when I watch and read so much other stuff outside of Star Wars, that always preach that feelings for other people make you stronger.

Exactly. The Old Republic Jedi were like some kind of church and they had strict rules. What George tried to show was their decadence (which was shown through Mace Windu and his arrogance). And, of course, you had the evil Sith.

Luke's not going down that path after what happened on the Death Star in RotJ.

Very true and it's heavily featured in the NJO series of books (only to be negated in the worst possible way in the 1st ennealogy I mentioned to you in the Boba Fett thread). When the NJO series is over, there is talk of "The Unifying Force" (also the title of the last NJO book). How beautiful is that?

I think this whole "middle ground" concept is best represented (for good or for worse) through Anakin's actions on how he had fallen from grace because of his inability to control his feelings but was able to redeem himself because of those said feelings as well.

If there's any credible people that are to be put in charge of this new story, they need to find that right balance.

And plus, I hope that with some film tricks and good organizing that they can finally show Luke (assuming if he's brought back alive) on how strong he was meant to be, even if he's past his prime.

I mean with the effects that they have today at their disposal and how they had gone about with doing Count Dooku's fight scenes, it wouldn't be too hard to show Luke being the badass Jedi that he was capable of being.

I don't know about anyone else, but I got tired on how a lot of folks kept saying that Luke was the weakest of all jedis due to how the fight scenes featuring Mark back in the OT were not as good as it was for the PT.

Hell, even Lucas has stated that Luke's force potential is that of the Chosen One's, so Luke should be able to do some pretty wild **** with his force powers alone.

I think the key is to be imaginative with the use of the Force. We may have to start making peace with the possibility that Luke may not be a badass saber wielder in the ST. But they can more than make up for it by having him control the Force as easily as he's *********ing (assuming he hasn't gotten married, that is).

When they show old Luke in action, wielding a Lightsaber, I hope there won't be too much twirly action. I want him to basically be the Ip Man of Jedi's. Total badass with minimal movements and effort. Like a Sith comes at him, swinging his Lightsaber in all kinds of directions and Luke does like 2-3 Moves to take him out.

If they can make someone as old as Ian do some lightsaber action shots and make it somewhat convincing that he's capable of taking down 3 Jedi Masters while going toe to toe with mace windu, then they shouldn't have too much trouble with Mark.lol

I knew you'd say that, but honestly... I'd rather not see an Ian/Sam level of duel when it comes to Luke. Maybe they'll come up with something that'll accommodate Mark's physique and age but still looks good. Something along the lines of what Nathan just posted.

lol; indeed. Though, while it's still about 11 years old, the best thing that people would have to reference on Mark's ability to twirl a lightsaber would be from his small scene in "Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back".lol

Ha, I had forgotten about that. If he puts his heart into it, Hollywood magic can be more than enough to make good stuff happen.

Gotta be honest, my 2 absolutely favorite Jedi Master Luke moments are in Dark Empire where he down an AT-AT with his will just after having deflected a couple laser shots from it with his bare hands and in the NJO book called Dark Tide (can't remember if it was Onslaught or Ruin) where he Force pulls Jacen's lightsaber, ignites it along with his own and fights some Yuuzhan Vong guards with 2 sabers, owing their asses. And that book was set in the beginning of the NJO, where they didn't know how to fight the Vong yet. God damn Luke f**ked 'em up real good.

It's not that I think they couldn't pull it off, I've just not always been a fan of all the spinning and jumping. And I think it would just be more badass if Luke could take out opponents with minimal effort.
