Should the Sequel Trilogy bring back the Old Characters?

  • Yes, they should bring back and use some of the old/classic characters

  • No, start fresh with a whole new set of characters

  • Maybe

  • Why are they even making more films?

Hamill said on Twitter that he can't comment on Episode 7 at the moment.

Congratulations to George for today's mega-deal! Can't comment on Ep 7 before I have all the facts which are short supply right now-Patience

Sounds like he's interested.

I wish SHH was R-rated, 'cause I'd sure like to express my enthusiasm more crudely after Mark's comment. Patience="I'm in if the scripts feature Luke".

That's an 'I'm in' if ever I've heard one.

This is a... creamy day. Sorry, couldn't resist.

No, start fresh. The universe is a big place, let's explore it.

It's "Episode VII." Which means "sequel." I don't see the problem with having Luke in the sequel in some capacity. That doesn't automatically mean it would focus on him or his family. But I certainly wouldn't mind seeing what became of the guy who helped save the galaxy a few decades ago, especially if he remains in a position of importance to the New Republic (or whatever its called now). Same goes for the other major characters.

But I would rather see this focus on someone who's not related to them.

Don't forget, Luke can be a Force Ghost. I do think he's the only one absolutely necessary for Episode VII.

I don't see why they won't bring any of the old characters back, especially Luke Skywalker since he could be the new Jedi Master who trains the new recruits.
Mark Hamill reprising the role in any fashion would be unbelievable. But seeing him doing something like the above would be unreal. Who would've thought such things would ever be discussed as a real possibility?

Luke downing an AT-AT a la Dark Empire. Splooge.

I want them to at least bring back Hamill as a (very aged) Jedi Master Luke. If they follow EU, they have a whole Academy idea they can work with. However, I also feel they could go a different route, making Luke the last true Jedi in the galaxy that our new hero has to seek out, putting Luke in the Obi-wan role.
As for everyone else, I'd love to see a Han and Leia cameo at least. Although I want to get the political stuff put away for this trilogy, I wouldn't mind seeing Leia as a senator for a couple scenes. Again we could get the Solo kids, or we could get something completely different.
Considering everything, I have no doubt R2 will factor into these. Anthony Daniels almost always voces c3PO these days so get him onboard while he is still in good health. Hell, I want Lando at least in a small role.

Lastly, I know people aren't crazy, but I'd get Temura Morrison as an aged Boba. Give us at least a cemo so we all get the satisfaction of knowing he survived. Maybe give him a larger role in the sequels (if Yuuzhan Vong war gets used, Fett factors in in a big way that would be really interesting to see onscreen.)

Interesting ideas all around, Dream. Whatever they do, I hope they don't scrap the Jedi Academy idea. It's logical, it makes sense and it's a great way to introduce tons of new characters.

I want to see the heroes of The Republic appear in this movie for a scene together. Even if it's just for one scene.

I think of it this way: the prequels had Anakin, the Emperor, Yoda, Obi...

Those guys all had roles in the original trilogy.

Why should Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewie not make appearances or have roles in the new trilogy? New characters SHOULD be the focus, but the old characters should be involved IMO. Not heavily. But they should be there. And someone like Luke ccould have a pivotal part like Yoda/Obi did in the past films... pivotal in that he could help mold or direct a new character.

I'd like to see some of the original cast return but not necessarily all of them, as well maybe some of the prequel cast members that actually acted. Originally the idea was that each trilogy would feature a new protagonist with their own conflicts, Obi-Wan was supposed to be the protag for the prequels and obviously Luke of the OG films. Luke was to pass on the torch to a new generation of Jedi and space heroes. Anyway I'd like to see:

A new galactic threat, maybe some kind of imperial retaliation over the destruction of the Death Star.

A new young boy who must learn to be a Jedi.

Mark Hamil return for his role as Luke Skywalker, an old Jedi who's taken the Ben Kenobi role.

Ewan McGreggor to put on some make-up and return as the ghost of Ben Kenobi.

A new Han solo type character, and a new set of non force sensitive characters in general.

A recast ghost of Anakin Skywalker to also help guide Lukes pupil

No mention of Han or Leia, I want Luke and the Jedi to be the only thing consistent with the previous films.

If they bring Anakin back and they don't get Hayden they'd be grade A a**holes, imo.

Depends on which version of the OT they're going with.

Force ghosts should make rare appearances.

They shouldn't pop up every 5 minutes.

I'd like cameos from the original cast.

Nothing more.

They should focus mostly on the next generation or two.

Absolutely. At the very least bring back Hamill to pass the torch.

I agree, I don't even want to see any until Episode VIII, maybe Ben Kenobis force Ghost telling an old Luke to train the new Jedi (ala Obi-Wan telling Yoda to have faith in Luke), but for VII thats it.

The original Sequel trilogy was to have Luke Skywalker training the "other" as spoken of in Empire, but after Kurtz dropped out of the project and Lucas's personal life was falling apart, the heart broken George wanted to finish Star Wars with Jedi and retconned the other to be Leia.

So I'd like to see something similar, have the movie focus on new characters and one of them stumbles upon an elderly Luke Skywalker who trains him to become a Jedi. Maybe have the Spirit of Obi-Wan continue his training in VIII and have the Spirit of Anakin warn him of the dangers of the darkside.

By IX I think Luke and company should have as much of a role as Yoda and Ben had. Basically cameos.

I agree. Only thing I feel is the Academy sort of undermines the half-thought out prophecy of the prequels. By that (don't get me wrong I do enjoy the prequels). I feel the Force is only in balance because the Sith are gone and (we won't get into those in hiding or whateveR), officially only one Jedi still stands.
This can be easily retconned to either the prophecy not defining how long the Force would stay in balance, or to it beign a debatable factor in the least. the point is, even if they aren't following Sith teachings, eventually one or more of Luke's students will fall and will either seek power in the dark side, or use his anger and just go Dark Jedi. Point is, an Academy truly only sets up for a lack of balance again.

That said, I still want to see an Academy, I at least want to see a small Jedi group for these films. My point being, I'm not against them going in a different direction with this either.:woot:

The original trio should be main characters, in least Luke should, even if he's in an Obi-Wan kind of role like in Episode IV, this is part of the numeric trilogy not a spin-off set after, the events should be conected to the main Saga and characters that were important in the previous trilogy should return and have an important role,.

One of the original ideas was for the sequel trilogy to be set 20-40 years after the original trilogy, the time seems perfect, if there are new main characters they should be connected to the trio, the best option may be to have their sons or something like that.

I really don't want to see an Academy. One of the things that made the Jedi so cool in the originals vs the Prequels was we didn't see them as much. I want one Jedi out of the main characters. I'm not against the idea that there was an Academy, I just don't think it would help the movie. Maybe have the Academy be in ruins and only Luke remains, have a hero who travels to the Academy to seek help and must learn to be a Jedi?
