Hamill. I'm betting my entire existence on it.
Hamill better return, or I will stop existing myself!

Hamill. I'm betting my entire existence on it.
Exactly. Plus A.It's called Ep 7 for a reason. Not a whole new story being told here. It's connected at least in some respect,to the saga as a whole.I have no idea what the point of a sequel trilogy would be if it DIDN'T bring back the old characters.
It's not like it's that hard. Just have Mark Hamill grow a beard and fulfill the Obi-Wan Kenobi role. Sheesh. It's not rocket science!
I agree. Only thing I feel is the Academy sort of undermines the half-thought out prophecy of the prequels. By that (don't get me wrong I do enjoy the prequels). I feel the Force is only in balance because the Sith are gone and (we won't get into those in hiding or whateveR), officially only one Jedi still stands.
This can be easily retconned to either the prophecy not defining how long the Force would stay in balance, or to it beign a debatable factor in the least. the point is, even if they aren't following Sith teachings, eventually one or more of Luke's students will fall and will either seek power in the dark side, or use his anger and just go Dark Jedi. Point is, an Academy truly only sets up for a lack of balance again.
That said, I still want to see an Academy, I at least want to see a small Jedi group for these films. My point being, I'm not against them going in a different direction with this either.t:
GL says in his head Luke doesn't marry... which, I agree, is a huge mistake. That's what cracked up Anakin and the whole point of hiding Luke and Leia with actual families until they were teenagers was to give them a firmer touchstone with humanity before throwing them into the battle of Jedi vs Sith.
That's yet another problem GL made in the PT that so much of the OT would seem to rectify if followed to the logical conclusion(as the EU has done). Surprise, taking babies away from their parents and raising them to be emotionless warrior monks might be a bad idea. Especially when they all live in an ivory tower and support corruptible structures like a Galactic Senate.
When you think back of indiana jones do you picture him at his prime or how he was in the last movie? Is it possible some of the illusion is lost when you bring back these actors 20-30 years later to play the same character?
I don't want the movie to be about a bunch of old men and robots. The fact is that Star Wars was a generation ago and it's time to pass it on to a new generation.
Lucas told Hamill and Fischer about this project over a year ago!

Lando is probably the best and coolest black character in pop culture, me thinks. What Empire Strikes Back did well was that Lando never ever came off as a token character.
Exactly.I don't think anyone wants the characters from the OT to be the main ones in the ST. We're simply talking re-appearances.
Which is why I think the PT handled it brilliantly. The Jedi had all those strict and dogmatic behavior and rules (like, against marriage) and they were basically as corrupt as the Republic. That's where the Sith found a window and f**ked 'em up.
Thats not handled brilliantly at all. The Jedi in the prequels are nothing like the Jedi in the original trilogy. Anakins fall wasn't tragic it was stupid, I mean it doesn't take a renowned psychologist to look at this brooding, angry mess and come to conclude he's losing it.
Not to mention Anakin and Padmes relationship wasn't selfish or greedy it was just really forced and there was nothing in the movies to state that his love wasn't why he fell to the darkside. I hate to break it to you, but the original films weren't greatly received either, however over the years things have changed, but the prequels aren't getting any better in the public eye. I don't think it's necessarily fair to say they were brilliant by any means.
Who cares if Mark is bigger now, he'd be a freaking grand master!!! The master of masters!! The original cast is a must.
The two people that I don't see the franchise having any difficulty in recruiting back should they need them are Mark Hamil and Billy Dee Williams imho.
And honestly, if only a few can or want to return, they could just say that the ones that didn't come back were killed off prior to the events of the sequel trilogy.
Also, I'd like to think that with them moving forward from the events of "ROTJ" that we may get like a Animation Series that dives into the events between the ending of ROTJ and before the start of the sequel trilogy, especially since there's bound to be a large separation of time between the two films. I've always wanted to see in some media form of what happened in canonical terms with Luke Skywalker after defeating the Emperor.
