Ok, We were talking about the ending and it came up that we thought the ending would have helped alot if the Western GR and the regular GR fought in the final battle with the western GR dieing at the hands of Blackheart.
This would have made Blackheart a better villian, as well as made for a bit more dramatic ending. (Just think of what the fight seen would have looked like!)
Anyway, so now I get to ask: Do you think that the Western GR should have stayed and fought in the final battle, and do you think he should have lived through it?

Even the death of the legendary Caretaker would not save Blackheart from the evils of Wes Bently's acting!

.. but script wise it would've been cool.

yeah, Caretaker should have died helping Johnny fight Blackheart. it would have made his desire for redemption more visceral, and would have made Blackheart more threatening.

Probably would have if there was enough budget for it...

That woulda been awesome. I guess they had their reasons for not doing it though. Or maybe they didn't even think of it in the first place!

Are you aware that the thread title is a MASSIVE SPOILER?

Spoiler forum

and it's saying what could have happened not what happened

and since it's Caretaker no one was expecting him to die so no it is not a spoiler

Yeah, but there are those that are incredibly anal when it comes to revealing anything. Also, the thread titles are freely available to anyone who clicks on 'new posts', spoiler forum or not.

In other news, I just sold my soul to the devil on the official website. You can find me there in the US. The red one named "Richard" towards the east coast.

I...don't really care

Neither do I, but I have AIDS and feel like spiting you all.

zer00 is right.

those who haven't seen the movie should know better than to CLUMSILY get into SPOILER FORUMS. what would be the point of making a banner that says "spoiler forums"?

besides, the thread title isn't a spoiler

Yeah western GR should have stayed and fought in the final battle, but there probably wasn't enough budget for it. What they could have done was have Caretake give his speach about this being his last ride befor they leave. Then while they were rideing have the water element form a massive water ditch under Caretaker's horse making it fall. We see western GR crash to the ground hard. When his skull hits the ground he changes back to human form. Then Ghost Rider could kill the water element here and Caretaker lives but is survey wounded because his GR power was just running on empty really. Or Blackheart could appear and beat Caretaker to death while GR is fighting the water element. Or when Caretaker crashes his head could hit the ground a second time but in human form killing him.

I like how he passed on the torch better than if he died. It helps give that sense of the history that Ghost Rider has. Plus, then there's the possibility of having him back in the sequel and I know I'd love to see Sam again.

All is okay in the spoilers forum. People should know what they're getting into when coming in here.

I still like the begining sequence with Carter, that was pretty cool.
Just wish there was more with Both Riders. Fingers are crossed for the extended tho.:D

^Yeah, I LOVED ever Carter scene, including the beginning and of course, the best scene in the film IMO, Johnny and Carter's desert ride.

HOPEFULLY...we'll get a bit more of Carter GR in the DVD.

But no...I do not think that Blackheart should've killed Carter/Caretaker, because as FlameHead said above...the 'passing of the torch' is much more nice of a fate...besides, SAM MUST COME BACK! Johnny needs to go to Hell and retrieve Carter...unless he DID indeed go to Heaven as he had hoped...

CAH

I think it would've been a better pay off if he had had more involvement in the fight. He didn't have to die, but taking a bigger part in it would've better I think.

i don think budget is the biggest issue... i think the real issue is that they clearly wanna do a sequel and clearly caretaker was the best character in that movie. i am actually very satisfied that they threw him in in "ghost rider form" because its a nice little nod to us cowboy-western comic book fans.

i like the way he went out, and it gives an option for him to return sumhow, maybe sent back to aid johnny as the new gr since he told mephisto tht he was gonan use his power against him

I would have preferred to see him help Johnny fight, but this opens up the chance to do it in the sequel. Sam Elliot was very cool as the Caretaker, and his mentorship over Johnny Blaze reminded me fondly of Sam Elliot's character Wade Garrett in the Road House film, and his mentorship over Patrick Swayze.

Having Caretaker flame up was definitely a fine nod to the classic western hero as well.

Agreed, quite the nod.

I think I would have preferred to see him fight as well but, that doesn't take away from what his role was in the film.

Yep. He definitely had a really great role in the film. I hope there's a sequel, and Elliot comes back.

I don't think ANYONE could suspend disbelief enough to imagine Wes Bentley kicking Sam Elliott's ass.

Well in all honesty it seemed kind of silly to me that the old Ghost Rider would spend his last bit of energy just too ride one last time with the New Ghost Rider... and than simply disappear.

On the other hand, I don't understand how a Ghost Rider could... deplete his reserves. Ghost Riders are actually big honkin' batteries? :)

I would've preferred to see the two Ghost Riders take on Blackheart, but I suppose people would've complained the movie is too much like Spawn.
