I think it was a shame the X-Men tune John Ottman created for X2 (an used in the X3 game) was ditched for X3. Agree?

Uh, I honestly dun't pay close attention to the music. If it wasnt much of a hassle then sure they could've add it, I guess.

No way, they aren't going to reuse music from a one director's movie in another director's movie. Different directors, needs all sorts of permissions and legal clearances. And the music we got was fine, The Last Stand piece is outstanding!

No they deon't. Not if it is in the same freaking franchise. Why do you think SR has the Williams score and Spidey 3 is keeping the recurring Elfman themes?

Anyway, I can say without a doubt that the X2 main theme was awe inspiring while the X3 sounded bad. I would have rather gotten the techno thing from the TAS show than Powell's boring "plug in music here" score.

Oh well.

No, I liked the X2 tune but I'm glad X3 had a different one.

Nah they decided to go down the road of new ones since the difference from x1 to x2. This Powell guy blended right in.

I can't even remember X2's main theme. And don't even get me started on its muddled, non-stop climax where all sorts of characters were fighting all sorts of other characters and William Stryker seemed to die three times. It just didn't know how to resolve itself. The final Jean Grey scene was brilliant, but the parts within the dam went all over the place!

Never seen a James Bond movie?

Yes, it does happen. But reusing scores does need clearances from those who own the copyright. And there's nothing wrong with X3's music at all.

the fact that the music was different in all 3 films feels right...since they all feel like separate movies...however, many have said that X3 simply doesn't work as a good movie by itself...it only works because of the other two movies...but, why did Ottman scrap X1's themes...I thought Kamens work was decent...but now that X3 didn't involve any of X2's themes it just seems like it makes a little sense.

I wouldnt say i cant remember x2s main theme lol because it was fantastic, i just appreciate x3s as well.

If you make a movie for Fox, the movie belongs to Fox. The music belongs to Fox. It's not up to John Ottman where and when Fox use his score.

I loved the X2 theme, but X3's was better.
In other words, I don't think the X2 theme should have been introduced.

Different director = Different sound.

But this was a sequel. You have Singer's style, Singer's cast, Singer's visuals....why not have Singer's music?

If Ratner had made a brand new X-Men movie with a fresh start, it would be nothing like X3.

Stop obsessing. They obviously wanted to do a new score. End of story.

They obviously didn't do it from X-Men to X2.
Besides, maybe it could have been great if Singer directed X3, but Ratner is the director. Let the music be different. It's not like it's the first time they changed the score for a sequel. Spider-Man 1 and 2 are different stories because Raimi was the director on both.

It's just like a friend's family member dying and you show them a bunch of pictures of him/her hoping that they'd feel better about it.

But it's part of a series, the continuity would have been appreciated.

And besides, it comes back to the theme opening X2 was epic and the theme opening X3 was cheesy. I agree most of the background was more forgettable in both beyond the main theme. Though I like Ottoman's main theme better I think Kaman gave the best all around score (I still love his theme for Mystique, the action theme, the rising climax theme, which made the conclusion the most suspensful of the three in the first movie, and the Rogue and Logan theme which was more touching than Logan and Jean in X3).

Oh well.

Are you sure you're not talking about X3 here? The action in X2 was pretty clear. You had Cyclops and Jean. You had Deathstrike and Wolverine. And you had Storm & Nightcrawler versus Jason. How many countless faceless mutants did we see in the final fight in X3? Were you simply confused in X2 because they weren't all on the same battlefield and Singer actually cut back and forth?

Not necessarily. Often times the rights to themes are held by the studio with the royalties going to the composer. This is why the Superman theme could be used in other Superman films even though they weren't scored by Williams. The same was true for Harry Potter.

In any case, rights to scores are easy to come by especially if it's in a franchise done under the same studio.

You're entitled to your opinion but quite obviously a few people disagree.
