Watching X2 last night i just found myself becoming more and more saddened at what happened with X3. X2 is, IMO, a fabulous movie and i still get goosebumps at the end when Jean gives her voice over and the firebird appears under the water. But then i remember what comes next. I thought X3 might have lessened X2's impact but its a testament to X2's quality that it is still the same great movie and still has the same impact. However, the difference in quality between X2 and X3 is astounding to me personally. I know there are fans of X3 but this also applies to them in a way.

X2 was THE perfect set up for a long, exciting, action packed movie but with lots of heart and sad moments. The thing that makes X2 superior are just the little character moments, like Cyclops telling Jean 'I would never let anything happen you,' or the talk between Storm and Nightcrawler in the X-Jet, or th talk betwen Bobby and Wolverine in the kitchen or the look Pyro gives when he is burning the cops in the car or the subsequent look he gives Rogue when she absorbs some of his powers, or Rogue quietly thanking Nightcrawler for saving her life, or Magneto telling Pyro he is a 'God among insects,' or Magneto asking Wolverine what he will do once he gets to the spillway mechanism 'Scratch it with you claws.' Or the short exchange between Mystique and Nightcrawler. Not mention that Jean's 'death' scene is handled 100 times better than any death scene in X3. The movie just doesnt move onto the next action scene after this death scene and really focuses on the effects it has on the characters who witnessed it. You just dont get moments like these in X3 and they make more of a difference than anything, and you can notice that X3 is missing this.

Watching X2 i just think, HOW do you mess up a follow up to this, its just got to be impossible. But IMO, they really did mess up what not only could have been an amazing 3rd installment that truly would have rocked the socks off practically every X-Fan in the world (not all obviously), and really put this trilogy into the upper echelons of the great trilogy list and we would have finally had a comic book trilogy that people would name alongside LOTR and the original Star Wars trilogy. I mean its like they were TRYING to mess it up, its obvious they were more bothered about the release date than the quality of the movie. I just dont think i am ever going to get over this (film-wise, i dont cry myself to sleep at night or anything:yay: ) until we get another X-Men movie better than X2 and i cant see that happening for a good, good while unless Bryan Singer returns to the franchise or we get another quality film maker in. I mean, even fans of X3 must admit they are dissapointed when they look at what we could have got. I know nothing will change now but i just had to throw this out there after experiencing the joy of X2 again.

Wow. Brilliantly said, my man! X2 remains one of my favorite films of all time and probably my favorite comic-book film after Batman Begins.

I saw X2 twice in one day and the second time was just an amazing experience; the first time was great, but watching it again with a packed audience on a busy Saturday night was just incredible.

The audience REALLY loved the film and all of those moments and more had the audience cheering, gasping, laughing and even crying. It was the best moviegoing experience I've ever had and one I will cherish forever.

And the little character moments of X2 are what really made the film for me. A lot of people complain about the lack of "awesome" action in Singer's films (which I disagree; the action was involved, as in it featured characters you knew about or were crucial to the story) but what made the first two X-Men films so unique and special was the emphasis on story and character over action. You sympathized and related to these characters and it was those little moments that you described that made the movie so incredible and satisfying.

At the end of the day, action is nothing. What lasts is the characters, what they say and what they do. That's what makes it worthwhile, and X2 certainly made it all worthwhile.

A men brotha:up:
I watched x2 today as well and it really saddened me because x2 set up x3 as being a meg powerhouse of a movie and possibly one of the greatest trilogies ever and i got really sad. X2 is just phenomenal and its sad fox decided to just make a summer action popcorn flick with no real quality to it :(

I haven't been able to watch X2 since seeing the Last Stand

read the graphic novel, it'll make you cry about what happened in x2 and make you kill yourself about what happened in x3

Glad some people see were i am coming from, even when Bryan Singer left the franchise, i thought, 'Surely they cant mess this up, they have an amazing second movie to follow on from and the perfect set up.' But alas, they worked toward a release date instead of a quality movie and, for me, it shows.

I thought X3 would ruin X2, but it doesnt, X2 still holds up well.

You're soooo right

Seeing X2 will just remind me of the utter excitement I felt for X3, and the disappointment that followed.

I know, but its a testament to X2 that it made me forget X3 and imagine what we would have had! Honestly, X2 isnt diminished by X3, this was my fear as well, but X2 is still amazing!

Because of TLS, I can't muster up to see X1 and X2 anymore. It'll just make me hate TLS even more.

^Yeah i felt exactly the same until i watched X2 again, its still awesome thank god.

i agree with everyone here. X2 was a wonderful movie, it's had great moments for example: when Pyro was at Bobby's house looking at the family photo on the wall, you can feel his pain.

I still can not get over the fact that Pyro said to Bobby that Rogue was Pathetic, hello they were friends in X2 well i think lol. Plus they had no scenes together in X3 bah...i thought it would of been great seeing eachother again since what Rogue did to Pyro at the house.

Also the feel of this movie is not the same as the last 2, i thought myself the start was moving to quick. If you know what i mean. Plus that fight we were all waiting for between John and Bobby, it freaken was like 30 secs. C'mon it could of been way better!!!

I really did not like Scott dieing by the way, not at all...:ninja:

^Agreed, Scott dying and the dissapointing Iceman-Pyro fight were just more bad factors.

Ya know...it just hit me: The "mutation" motto wasn't in the theatrical version. Rumor was that Storm was supposed to quote it, but I don't recall it being in there. That, along with Xavier's trademark monologues are what made this franchise unique.

What stupid oversights.

^Tell me about it, i mean it would have been a good way to continue the franchise by using its trademarks, but obviously no one on this movie was that clever.

X2 is by far the best... It showed how Jean truely was a hero... -sighs- a woman capable of making a choice in order to save her friends...to sacrafice herself...knowing it will cost her life in the end.

I agree with you AVEITWITHJAMON. I always get goosbumps even tho i have seen X2 like a million times.

^Yeah me too, X2 is by far the best, dont think i'll ever get over how dissapointing X3 was compared to it.

When I watched X2 again recently, I did cry. First because the characters were alive and acting like the characters we know. The chemistry was there, the development was there, all the touching scenes and more meaningful dialogue was there. Second, because one of those characters went onto die under tragic circumstances, giving up her life to save others. It's that cold feeling you get, being close to someone and knowing that in the next few minutes they are going to die and there's nothing you can do about it because they won't let you. And third, because that certain characters who dies a hero, will come back as a monster. A monster that has nothing good of the character left and either kills or tries to kill the same people she just saved...

*BURSTS OUT CRYING*

WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!

:(

:p

:)

:(

Those where all excellent points Aveitwithjamon.

^^^ It's only a bad dream. Just think of it as the story ending so far with X2 and it's all ok

Don't let it (X3) control you... :)

I feel like this person is a mind reader. I couldn't sum up my feelings of dissapointment more for X2 better, especially since God Loves Man Kills is my favorite American graphic novel. Turning it more into the Wolverine Show made me want to rip out my hair.

Watching Singer/Bobby make himself known to his parents wasn't remotely entertaining.

The phoenix thing should have never been brought to screen. There was no way that it would have worked. Any other villian or keeping with Mags would have been fine. With the trend of Wolverine superiorty, The Phoenix Saga didn't stand a chance on screen.

This was a over romantisiced wanna be pretentious move on Singer's part that really made me hate what could have been great. Kinda like TLS, and The Hulk.

Heroes and Batman Begins proves that superheroes can be real without boring me to death. Spiderman proves that they can also be fun and colorful with out being a long version of Power Rangers.
