Eh, I'd say it's an everyman for himself scenario. They've got the right to park there if it's empty, but you also have the right to vandalize their car if they parked in your territory. Each action has it's pros anc cons.

There is no law to protect the parking spot. However there are laws against vandalism. So, people have the right to park wherever it is not prohibited by law, but that does NOT give you the right to commit vandalism in return.
This is one reason why so many ferrets end up in cages. They don't really respect the law.
