Shoveling out a parking spot = I own that sucka...right?

If you shovel out a space, is it yours by default?

  • Damn skippy.

  • No one owns the street, whoever gets there first, it's their's.

  • I don't own a vehicle, so I don't give a crap..no matter how pathetic that is

  • Maybe, maybe not.

Eh, I'd say it's an everyman for himself scenario. They've got the right to park there if it's empty, but you also have the right to vandalize their car if they parked in your territory. Each action has it's pros anc cons.

:csad: That I would even find this necessary to mention SuperFerret:

There is no law to protect the parking spot. However there are laws against vandalism. So, people have the right to park wherever it is not prohibited by law, but that does NOT give you the right to commit vandalism in return.

This is one reason why so many ferrets end up in cages. They don't really respect the law.

pretty much the spot should be yours, usually everyone is shoveling out their spot on the block around the same time, so everyone should know the deal.

Everyone is taking that too seriously. My point is, if it's customary that the person who clears the spot has the spot, then if you park there, you should be prepared to face some consequences of that.

And ferrets are caged because we like playing in the fans underneath refridgerators.

If you shovel the spot, it's yours.

Everybody get a Jeep or Hummer so you won't have to shovel the spot out...you can just ride on top of the snow :o:up:

Moral of the story, don't shovel out the spaces. It's every man for himself. There's a shoveled space and I'm taking it I don't care who did the work.

I'm sort of wondering...if you have to shovel out said spot...how do you even GET to the spot?

See, sometimes snow falls overnight or between the time you get home from work/drive somewhere and have to go to work/drive somwhere else again. Therefore snows accumulates around and on your car. So you have to shovel your car out of the newly fallen snow.

Terry, they did actually pass a law or regulation a few years back that said you couldn't shovel out the spot in front of your home and then put a lawnchair or two there to hold it for ya.. Everyone still does it.May be technically illegal ,but its the code of the streets.'Move my lawnchair and park in my spot, your car is gettin keyed up'.Everyone knows the code.

Actually 6-7 years ago, Mayor Daley said in a press conference he believes in the save a spot unwritten rule. So by permission of the Mayor you are able to save it. Although, I think it should only apply while the snow is still bad, it's not that bad anymore, so I do think the saving a spot thing should apply. One you can easier get into most spots on the street, the unwritten rule doesn't apply.
