its pretty good, good mystery vibe, lot of people with shifting motives and such. dicaprios character ,as written, is interesting and fully formed.

should be good, i have full faith in the people making the film, but i don't know who the screen writers are. I'm sure though that if Marty liked the script its pretty well good to go.

Laeta Kalogridis co-wrote Alexander and Pathfinder. Not a great track record before Scorcese and Shutter Island came along.

7/10

A pretty decent flick, although the final act drags a bit. I'll give it this though: I had no idea where the plot was going to go and that was pure bonus.

Jackie Earle Hayley's cameo was a great deal sweetener for the Rorschach fans out there. Loved his make up job too.

Go see it.

one of my most wanted films of 2010. scorsese makes a horror movie, starring one of my fav. actors, leo dicaprio. this movie cant fail.

I can't wait to see this next weekend. Gonna be awesome.

I entered that contest on AICN that Capone has for screenings of movies, and actually won! :wow: You'll see Terrence on that list on the site, but I had to tell old boy I couldn't make it because I'll be out of town next week. :csad: I didn't think i'd actually win the ****ing thing.

This movie is getting the weirdest reviews. It's like no one wants to say outright that it barely misses the mark, but talk about how excellent the filmmaking techniques are.

well the book is one of Lehane's more predictable mysteries. But Scorsese is said to have made the film unpredictable. To me that means he may have improved upon the novel, so I don't know why people would be criticizing it harshly, then.

That's just it. They aren't criticizing it. It's like they are struggling to say it works as anything other than a mastery of filmmaking.

My mom said she thought the book was stupid. I wanted to punch her in the face.

I can believe it. It was weird watching it. I had a good idea how it was going to turn out in the end (never read the book), but how the story reached that point was not the easiest thing to follow.

I finished the book last week and I sort of knew where the plot was going. I am really excited for this film though, the trailer just looks so damn creepy.

I wonder how this will do at the BO. I've been watching the Olympics and every day they've announced then shown a sneak peak of the film, that's pretty damn good advertising with how many people tune in for the Olympics.

I can believer it. After The Departed he and Leo have a lot of good will from the mainstream, indeed.

I think they're doing a good job at advertising it. I mean the visuals alone look like it's worth the price of a ticket.

Saw it tonight at an advanced screening. Here's my review:

http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/film-review-shutter-island

A hurricane is approaching and patient Rachel Solando escapes from an insane asylum that's located in an island. She didn't try to swim away because the current would have killed her and washed her ashore. So, where is she? That's what U.S. Marshalls Edward "Teddy" Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) are trying to find out.

Throughout their investigation they begin to wonder if Solando really did escape. Does a Rachel Solando even exist? Perhaps it's a trap. Someone wants them on that island and isn't going to let them escape. And with the hurricane nearby they couldn't even if they wanted to.

That's the mystery in director Martin Scorsese's first film since 2006's The Departed, the movie for which he finally won an Academy Award. Like The Departed and even his 1991 film, Cape Fear, it's a thriller that'll have audiences on the edge of their seat. However, it is the weakest of the three. If this movie has one flaw (and it's only ONE flaw) it's that it relies too much on the mystery. Once you know the ending there's no reason to re-watch the film. It's two hours and twenty minutes of DiCaprio running around a mental institute. Aside from two or three humorous scenes nothing distracts the plot. It's on autopilot. So, it's a really good movie but a B-plot away from being great.

If you want to know the ending:

[BLACKOUT]Leo is patient 67. It's all in his head.[/BLACKOUT]

Nice, cant wait till I see it. Im loving what im hearing of it so far.

Armond White just gave it a negative review. Therefore it MUST be a Fantastic film! Looking forward to it! :woot: :oldrazz:

White has the relevance of infant talk anyway.

I mean the man must hate his own mother too.

Last night I looked at the spoiler of the ending that Road Warrior posted and sad to say I wasn't surprised. With this kind of film it's one of the few twists they could have taken it. That ending was already one of the few choices I was guessing it was going to be.

I'm sure I'll still enjoy the film regardless.
