Miller on why she took the role of the Baroness.
by Jim Vejvoda
US, June 6, 2008 - Sienna Miller was recently interviewed in Prague, where she had been filming scenes for next summer's big screen version of G.I. Joe. Miller opened up about why she took on the role of the wicked Baroness in the Stephen Sommers-directed action flick.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Miller acknowledged that doing such a high-profile Hollywood movie will surely bring the tabloid magnet more media scrutiny. "I'm aware of what a film of this magnitude will bring. An interviewer said this thing to me that was a huge part of my decision. He said, 'As far as I'm concerned you can act, but the people that read Heat will never see the films you're making, and they are the non-believers," Miller recalled. "You have to make something commercial in order to be seen as more than a fashionista or tabloid fodder."
Miller added, "To do the films that are brilliant and big, you have to have been in a film that's made money. So it's strategic to a certain degree. The challenge of playing a baddie [such as the Baroness] and learning to fire guns and be in something so visually groundbreaking was part of it too -- we had five cars in the air at the same time crashing on top of me -- but it's not an actor's piece. It took me a while to understand that it wasn't about me connecting to the dialogue, and now it really is great."
The Telegraph said that a G.I. Joe "trilogy is in the offing, and the second instalment may bring Miller closer to her dream of [owning] a Modigliani."
