Simon Beaufoy writting "Wolverine 2"?

It says he claims to not know what a Wolverine is/was...UGH!

I hope he only writes a draft and they get someone a bit better.

He doesn't know what a Wolverine is but they asked him to write the next one??? Wonderful:(

I don't know about this story...the movie hasn't even been released and they are already rushing to start #2.

Supposedly "no" (I don't know where he heard that Hugh didn't want to do anymore):

Update: Alex from FirstShowing contacted Fox, and the studio claims the story isn’t true.

I received an interesting e-mail yesterday from a /Film reader named Adam B claiming that Wolverine 2 was in development, and Slumdog Millionaire screenwriter Simon Beaufoy was penning the script.

alright guys, im currently working at the bradford international film festival in the UK, and tonight we had simon beaufoy, screenwriter

of slumdog millionaire doing a screentalk. anyway he dropped a bit of a scoop, hes been employed to write the script for "wolverine

2″ a film i didnt actually realise was even in the pipeline. he commented that while he was apprehensive about the project (claiming to not even know what a wolverine was!) his agent pursuaded him to take it on. he clarified that working on a film thats successor has yet to be finished was a strange experience, and one that he wasnt sure he was comfortable with. anyway, i read your site everyday and figured id send this interesting little tidbit over, seeing as you guys are such big fans of slumdog.

I did some research and found that Beaufoy was in fact at the Bradford International Film Festival, which makes this all the more possible. But no mention of Simon’s Wolverine mention was made in any of the newspaper stories. I put a call for help out on twitter, but no one I know was in attendance. I didn’t plan on posting this report unless I could double source it, but apparently Adam emailed the same report to AICN and theey posted the e-mail this morning. I’m not sure if Merrick was able to confirm the report with another source, but I thought that now that the rumor was out of the bag, it may be worth posting on /Film.

I’m suspicious because I heard that X-Men Origins: Wolverine covers most of the Wolverine mythology, and doesn’t leave much room for more stories to take place before X-Men. I’ve also heard that Hugh Jackman is not interested in doing another film. So, we’ll see…

hm....dont really like the sound of all this....wolverine 2, sure, him writing it....not so much....

From my point of view, Slumdog Millionare won the Oscar, Fox asked him to write, he was problably going to refuse due him not knowing the character, and his agent convinced him otherwise. We'll see how it turns out.

Well that last bit about Jackman not interested in doing another film is bull.

In an interview that came out I think less than a month ago, he said he would love to do one but only if it didn't feel like they were milking the franchise. Basically he won't do another he said if they can tell they're dragging it out too much.

edit: double post

Hugh Jackman said he'd do 11 more films if he could. I don't believe he'd turn down Wolverine 2.

Jeez! Can we please just get a remake of X3??
;)

There are people still hoping for an X4?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

X3 ended the franchise. It gave each character closure. There's nowhere to go from that.

Let's stick with the Spin-Offs/Prequels.

There is no room for logical progressions on Fox's agenda.

I thought the fact that Tom Rothman was bumped upstairs and is no longer involved in day to day movie planning would've made fanboys everywhere look forward to future X-films?

Wolverine in Japan is just what I want to see next! (After Magneto's story)

that is good news because i don't care if he has 10 Oscars if he doesn't know the material/story/character/ he could easily **** it up

this is stupid,
a sequel to a trilogy's prequel,
"sigh"
i know its unlikely, but we need X-4, no more spinoffs, wolverine looks good, but the sound of a magneto spinoff, idk, i think it would be boring, but thats what i thought of with wolverine origin movie before the trailers came out.

Are you serious? What closure? There was even an after-the-credits scene. There's room for more films. You just need a good writer.
EDIT: And might I add, we haven't even seen Apocalype yet!?

I agree. I would much rather see a Magneto prequel that is more of a character piece than a popcorn action movie than an X4. Plus, Wolverine still has his entire Japan/Silver Samurai and Omega Red stuff to dive into to make a whole new movie.

That's what Star Wars did. Say what you will about the prequels, but watching them all together makes for a pretty epic experience. Heck, just knowing there are six Star Wars movies is epic in and of itself.

Why not have two X-Men trilogies?
