Everyone assumes "Phoenix effect" = fire or firebirds. And I'm not arguing about whether there should've been fire or not. But the atomization, rising water, etc. still constitutes a special effect, no?

That's why I'm saying that that example is subjective. Someone's interpretation of "Phoenix effect" as fire might make it seem like a lie, but the words don't automatically mean there was going to be a firebird and they lied about it.

I understand what you're saying, and this is what I put forward everytime it's claimed that the writers confirmed the firebird. None the less, they knew they were being misleading. They knew people would assume the firebird. Not once did they come out and state there would be no firebird, which wouldn't have ventured into a spoiler given it's only an effect. They made an effort to squirm around the firebird questions because they knew full well there would be some fan outrage.

I'm sounding like a bit of an X3 hater, and I'm not at all. Love it. Kinberg and Penn did mislead however, even if they didn't lie. They knew how fans would interpret things they said.

When the filmmakers go with the water and atomization and someone involved says the "Phoenix effect" is going to be cool, you can't make a claim that it was a lie unless a firebird was promised to you.

You will hate it because these characters die, we decided to use a different FX for Phoenix, and these other characters get cured."

They also said that the AICN Script review from last year was from an "Idea Draft" & that most of the stuff does not at all happen in the Movie when pretty much EVERYTHING from that Script Review DID happen in the Movie ?

He has a point. Cyclops fans were never going to be pleased with his death, and given the reaction to the AICN script, this was widely known. The Rogue fans were never going to be happy with her taking the cure.

Personally, I loved the Cyclops death scene, but then, I'm not a Cyclops fan. It's obvious the Cyclops fans wouldn't be happy with it. No one could think they would be.

I'm not sure what's enfuriating people - their idea that the writers lied, or the idea that either Matt or I have an opinion to post on this forum when it comes to discussion of our own forum.

If you hate this movie, by all means, go tell them. The only thing we asked in the threads was that people at least remain civil in their negativity, rather than launching a volley of swearing and insults.

Gothic, as far as I can see, the writers said they hoped Rogue fans would be happy, and that they did the best they were able to with Cyclops. And I believe it was Brett who said that only a small scene was cut, since both writers admitted they did not have control over the final cut of the film.

& then after that they said the same thing & even also said that they werent sure if it was FOX or Bretts decision to cut the small Scene & as I listed there are other exambles. You're putting words in my mouth. I never said they are not liars, or that they did not say things you have listed. I'm not fighting a battle at all, I'm posting an opinion on a message board.

I disagree with a post I saw made by another forum member who acted as though people's disappointment in Jean's role was influenced directly by lies from the writer. I did not say, "These writers are the most pure and virtuous people in the world!" I have nothing to gain by defending them, since the movie is over and out at this point.

If you want to give them the benefit of the doubt and say their answers weren't outright lies, you have to admit they were (at the very least) deliberately misleading.

I do believe Simon and Zak's participation was more carefully orchestrated than some people think. Either the Xverse admins knowingly allowed the writers to use their messageboard for damage control or they were merely innocent pawns that were used by Fox.

At the time fans were believing the AICN Script Reviw & hating it with a passion. It would not be surprising at all if FOX asked them to do this to mislead the fans purposely. But we will never know & I still stand by that they owe AICN an apology

There seem to be quite a few people who are upset with Simon and Zak so it's not just one person with an agenda against your forum.

I don't think people are necessarily upset with you and Matt because you had no control over S&Z's answers.

I also don't blame you for feeling you owe them a measure of protection. But it's not like they weren't aware there would be backlash. Yet they continued to mislead people even after it became apparent people weren't accepting their responses. They worked pretty hard to convince us that ours fears were unfounded when they had to realize we'd find out sooner than later. They could've (and should've) retreated instead of continuing their PR campaign. I wonder if ultimately they'll feel it wasn't worth the ego-stroking they enjoyed.

Unfortunately that hatemongering was back in June of 2005 as I recall. FOX said it was an older released draft but as we can see it wasn't as about 90% of everything stayed in the film.

The writers obviously orchestrated the "Q&A" after a so called "review" hit the wire back in January of 2006 along with leaked images. At that point is when the writers decided to take up Ted & Matt on their offer to answer some questions as damage control.

Again, if it wasn't for those images the Xverse would still be deserted and Penn&Kinberg would never have participated in the first place as their Q&A Forums were abandoned, along with the Xverse for months.

Exactly none of us are upset with Ted & Matt. They did what any other Movie Site would do they had an opportunity & they took it like anyone else running a Movie Site would do & that is totally understandable on their part. No one is blaming them at all for what they said
