Simone Leaving BoP

I already dropped this title, but still... that sucks.

I'm not a regular buyer; I've picked up some of the TPBs and just jumped on for the Secret Six arc. I just hope the new project she's got rocks. Maybe, as many of the Newsarama members suggested, she got Wonder Woman.

she was hinting like hell , WonderWoman Mug, WonderWoman Doll..

looks like I'm gonna drop wonderwoman too

She kinda lost me after OYL, but I dug her BOP. Hopefully she gets a good book to work on and someone else can pick up the reins of the title that is just as good as her.

Simone at least showed that she could write Wonder Woman. I liked her depictions of Diana in the past.

I just don't know how well I like her stories in general. They usually leave me pretty bored and confused..

Meh, if she gets Wonder Woman it might be good but everyone knows the rational, "Gail is a woman, so she should write Wonder Woman!"

It's too bad, because I never read Wonder Woman. She'd do a much better job on JLA than what they've got now.

I'm usually not one for Simone's writing. It's not horrible or anything, but at the same time, I've never read anything exceptional from her...and some of her writing choices can irk me at times. I'm certainly not looking forward to her taking over WW. Maybe I'll try it, but I'm not too confident at the moment.

I can understand why some fans criticize her for being "workmanlike" in her writing, but to me that's her strength. The impression I get from her writing (I though the Villains United/Secret Six series were good examples of that) is that she understands the medium she's working in better than most writers do, she knows what he job is, and she f%#$in' does it.

I think of her as like the Howard Porter of writers; she's not so damn obsessed about creating her own "voice" or "trademark style," and as a result she doesn't forget to tell a story, and remembers to tell a story via action (which is what separates a comic book from a screenplay storyboard to begin with) and doesn't gratuitously screw with characterization or continuity just "to leave her mark" on the DC Universe.

Too many writers forget that, which is why readers like me have wasted so much money on Meltzer's do-nothing JLA, Smith's pretentious, arrogant Green Arrow run and other examples I don't care to mention.

She's no Grant Morrison, but I respect Simone in that she knows how to do her job very well.

Hey, I have no problem with the female perspective, but, frankly, her writing seems quite cliche at times. Y'know, female writer writing stories all about women laced with sexist potshots against men and an always present lesbian character of some kind (not that I'm against lesbian characters:o).

Just because there's worse out there is no excuse to embrace mediocrity. I'm not saying that's what Simone is to ever. But to me, that's her. And, personally, I'd read Quiver ten times over before I felt the need to pick up Villains United again.

I guess it's a matter of personal taste at the end of the day. However, I don't sense any man-hating in her writing (I really like her characterization of Deadshot and Catman, for example), and in fact her depictions of lesbian characters can't really qualify as feminist. Beautiful, feminine, toned lesbians in comic books and in other media are clearly, clearly meant to appeal to the fantasy dreams of heterosexual male readers.

Like I said, she really knows who she's writing for.

Oh, so you're saying she's sexually bias towards men.

See, as a reader, I don't want any of that crap. Forget the pointless sex, forget the social statements. I want good writing and good characters.

Although, I will say, she does write the characters very well in Villains United/Secret Six. Unfortunately, neither of the stories' plots grabbed me at all.

I'm a big fan of Simone's writing and BoP's loss is Wonder Woman's gain. I look forward to her run.

BOP was the only DC title I was collecting monthly. Once Gail leaves it then good-bye DC.

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say, and good riddance to you.

I agree, after OYL I dropped the series. It was great before that, but I just really lost interest after the jump. I might check out her Wonder Woman though, get a fresh start.

TOO BAD.
BoP was my favorite book and I think it's mostly due to Gail Simone. I was not a big fan of Dixon's BoP. Then I became addicted to it when G.Simone arrived on the book. She leaves, I think I leave. I've never followed a serie so continuously except Flash, and when G.Johns left, I kept reading it a little and I was deceived. Maybe was I used to G.Johns ' writing ? Maybe am I used to read Simone.
No Canary, no G. Simone ... it's over for me. I'll check what the new writer do from time to time.

What, are you gonna fight me? Gonna call me chicken in front of our classmates because I won't throw down with you at recess?
