this has probably been done before. But which do you guys prefer out of the Frank Miller adaptations. I go with Sin City due to the visual look wowing me more, the violence feeling slightly more real and harder, and the cast being so star packed. Also, from shot number 1 I was hooked with Sin City, 300 hooked me after about 40 minutes.

Sin City was a way better movie.

300, easy. Sin City is overrated IMO.

Well, 300 I can see playing to a wider audience with it's heavyhanded themes. The Sin City visual style of the movie was very well done.

However, Sin City introduced the visual style and seemed more technically well done in terms of dialogue and cinematic style. I don't really have a favorite but in terms of originality, Sin City wins.

Sin City was the better movie,300 was basically one big battle movie.

Sin City. It's visual style was better, it was groundbreaking in how similar it was to the source, and it's acting was better. Everyone in 300 except for David Wenham was bad.

That's unfair. I think most of the soldiers performed their role all right. It was Queen Gorgo who pulled the movie down worst of all. She just seemed to be another model they threw in their to give pedantic speaches and fullfill the 1 hot girl in a man's movie requirement.

its a close call there both two completely different movies and both are somewhat overrated...im gonna have to go sin city just because of the actors

Disagree; everyone in 300 was good except david wenham. His narritive voice is that of a 12 year old pre-puberty she-boy.

Sin City was better imo. I stick in 300 when I dont want to think about a movie, just mindless matrix-style killing with rhinos, elephants, and guys with blades as arms..
Sin City had the better stories, acting, and overall appeal. I just enjoyed the stories of each main character's skits...

I wanted to say 300.

But then I remembered Clive Owen.

Sin City, by a hair.

This is easy for me, 300.

-------

Sin City, whilst being visually superior, and containing some good scenes and actors bores me to tears sometimes and the typical seedy Miller dialogue grates nonstop.

300 on the other hand is a simple, rewatchable testosterone fest. Good action, well shot and a great performance from Leonidas. Great stuff and hilariously quotable.

You took the words right out of my mouth....sort of, I was simply going to say that David Wenham was the worst part of the movie.

Sin City by far, I found 300 to be too boring. Sin City has become more so in recent viewings but I've also watched it several times at the first time I saw it I had a lot of fun. Unlike 300 which basically put me to sleep during my second viewing.

Both movies are seriously overrated though.

Sin City, definetly. 300 is WAY overrated....IMO.

tough call , i really liked both but sin city is more memorable for me .

and lets face it, Sin City had tons of half naked women....300 on the other hand had....well you know.

My thoughts exactly.

And what do you all mean by 'overrated' - in the commercial sense or in the performance department?

QFT.

Why isn't there a poll?

I think both movies are great, but too different to really compare.

Even though they share many qualities, I put them in far too different of categories to even compare.
