SINGAPORE : He is well-known in the local arts scene, having began his 20-year career in theatre, television and film as a teen actor.

Now Singapore actor Ng Chin Han has snagged a role in the next Batman movie “The Dark Knight” which is set to hit cinemas in July next year.

Working with big names like Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger and Gary Oldman, Chin Han admits that he does feel a little pressure but the actors are very professional. “That’s the great part about working with these guys. And they obviously come with a great body of work and that’s very exciting for me.”

The audition process was long and grueling, and took about six to eight weeks before everything was set and inked. And it being a Hollywood blockbuster, everything was top secret.

“The scripts that they let you read for the auditions are not the scripts for the exact film movie because everything’s so top secret. You get scripts that are printed on special paper that cannot be photocopied, there are invisible watermarks, all kinds of things. You feel like a spy in a James Bond movie when you are looking at these scripts.”

Even though he’s landed a role in a Hollywood blockbuster, Chin Han’s not turning his back on theatre.

“Theatre is wonderfully exciting, it’s very organic. You have an audience… It might sound like a cliché but there’s nothing like seeing the smiles on the face of an audience at the end of the play or musical. I think that’s very fulfilling.” - CNA

I guess they finally cast the asian accountant!

its kato!

oh wait..

hopefully he will actually have a role, and not just a walk on.

Nice find, but yeah im not sure what he'll be playing but you might be right about the asian mob

And they can't find a decent Asian American actor for the role?

Whatever the role - from the first billing to the extras - why would anyone go halfway across the globe to cast a complete unknown?

You´d rather have someone who speaks perfect english to do a fake accent than have the real thing? (if that´s the case for this role)

to get the best actor for the role?

How less real is an Asian American compared to an Asian? I'm not suggesting Chris Rock for the role of an Asian mob.

I´m not saying anybody´s lesser than the other, but perhaps this particular guy was the right choice for Chris Nolan.

and there were ultra mega details on the sets of superman returns

i just have a feeling thta they aer spending to much money on stuff that noeone cares.

i doubt that his guy will have a big role.

He could be the "LFI VP" that meets "Faulkner" at the helipad, or the "Mr. Lau" also mentioned in the sides.

Doesn´t this movie have a lot bigger bugdet than Begins had? I think there´s no need for worry about where the money´s being spent.

On a side note, wasn´t there someone (Jett perhaps?) Who mentioned being an extra in a courtroom-scene where an asian mobster was on trial?

Then why the need to scout halfway across the globe for an actor to fill an insignificant role?

I would understand if it was Chow Yun Fatt or Jet Li whom have quite an accomplishment under their respective belts, but this guy??

So when you need an Asian actor it's should be a well known martial arts mega-star?

Maybe Nolan wanted a new face. He's cast Australians, Scots, Americans , British I don't see why it's so strange he'd cast a well-known 20 veteran from Singapore.

info please.

I don't think they actually had people scouting the guy. What probably transpired was someone on the crew had known of his work. I don't think it was as much a huge process as some make it out to be. Someone that knew of him thought he would be good for the role, told Nolan, contacted the guy, put him through auditions, got the part. Probably no different a process from hiring any other supporting actor/actress in a movie.

Great new's.

Never seen this actor'e before in film. This probably due to his love of theatre. Which sometime's turn's out incredible actor's/actress's. Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman. All theater major's at one point in there life. If you take a closer look at this man (Chi Han, the newly casted actor) he doesn't look anything like someone from the Chinese Mafia. Much less what would the "Chinese" have anything to do with this film? Or the plot itself? All very secretive.

Though I have my doubt's. He could have a minimal role. Perhap's a police officer? Prolly'. Just like Flass, a well-known character, but not neccesarily the "Star" of the picture.

:batman: The Bat Has Spoken.

The world extends beyond America...perhaps Chris Nolan is looking for a local star for this region again, like he did with Watanabe in Begins. People in non-USA regions respond very well to local stars in movies like this.

They didn't go half way around the world looking for him. He was the one who pursued the part, he was in the US and went to the auditions and just like Eric Roberts it took some time before he actually got the part. A lot of foreign actors and actresses (from this country too) do that. There's no laws against it and if they are casting a role that requires an asian why not get someone who's actually born and raised in Asia.

Chan also had a supporting role in 3 Needles with Lucy Liu, Stockard Channing, Shawn Ashmore and Chloe Sevgny. So this isn't his first overseas movie.:cwink:

BTW theres a video on the site where he goes into more detail about TDK.

holly s.... this dude has a big role. if you watch the video you can hear how much filming he has.
