Well, that makes better sense. I couldn't fathom why someone would trek halfway across the globe to get a relatively unknown actor to play a small role. Doesn't make any financial sense.They didn't go half way around the world looking for him. He was the one who pursued the part, he was in the US and went to the auditions and just like Eric Roberts it took some time before he actually got the part. A lot of foreign actors and actresses (from this country too) do that. There's no laws against it and if they are casting a role that requires an asian why not get someone who's actually born and raised in Asia.![]()
Chan also had a supporting role in 3 Needles with Lucy Liu, Stockard Channing, Shawn Ashmore and Chloe Sevgny.So this isn't his first overseas movie.![]()

But if he was in town and pursued the part, then that makes sense.
