I really hope this is good. After watching The Possession and V/H/S, I hope it doesn't let down like those movies did.

Anyone know where I can find the script? I'd rather read it before paying to see this flick. It's giving off far too much of a "Yet Another Movie That Will Shock You By Killing Children" vibe, and I don't find that scary, just downright depressing and sick.

VHS sucked. It really did. This film, was great all around! Saw it at SXSW. It was really suspenseful and scary. And guess what... It wasn't shot like paranormal activity!

VHS was terrible. The Possession was just a run-of-the-mill exorcism movie, nothing memorable. I hope you're right about this one.

The demon in this looks creepy as all hell, so that's a good start.

planning to see this tonight or tomorrow night. I've heard reports that the god the killer is based on isn't even real?

Just got back from seeing this and I will just say that I didn't like this movie at all. From the reviews I thought this was gonna be a genuinely creepy/ scary movie. But it was slow and boring it most places, and used the same lame jump scares most horror movies use today. But it does have some creepy moments but they short lived. The ending was just kinda of like what the hell? I was hoping this movie would be decent but it just ended up being a disappointment. The crowd I saw it with pretty much hated it as well 6/10 for me. Hoping Paranormal Activity 4 and Silent Hill Revelations are good and I can forget about this movie.

I'm not surprised this isn't all that great. More of the same ******** horror they've been pumping out the past 10 years.

Yea but that's only my opinion of course, some people may have liked it but I certainly didn't and neither did the crowd I saw it with.

Disagree with you guys above me, this movie was genuinely terrifying. And it was original too.

Strongly disagree, they handled scenes very well in what could've been cheesy and they only had very few jump-out-of-your-seat scares. I was tense during the entire movie, it did not disappoint whatsoever. One of the better horror movies in recent times.

Saw this movie last night. I was expecting something scarier. They gave away a lot of the good scenes in the trailers and commercials. Overall I was kind of disappointed.

Walked into this barely knowing anything about it, other than it had mad raves by reviewers I truly trust. First ever time in my movie going life, that I saw so many people scared ****less by a movie. The entire audience was basically sunk entirely in their seats and everytime one of the Super 8 movie started, the room just fell into complete silence.

10 years for now, we'll still be talking about this flick. Finally an intelligent, R Rated horror movie in October that didn't insult my intelligence. It earned it's scares, rocked some of the most effective visuals in quite a long time and major props to the audio design. The creepiest, most bonechilling score in over a decade? Oh yes.

This little beast needs crap tons of sequels that culminate in New York, followed by space just to wash the pisspoor PA crap that floods theater every Halloween. Finally. A real, terrifying horror film. And major, major props to Ethan Hawke with an out of this world performance. He nailed it.

In my opinion, the best horror movie released in theaters since Wes Craven's New Nightmare. High praise indeed.

Going to see it probably Tuesday or Wednesday. Hoping for at least the ladder. The script wasn't really that good, but sometimes a director can instantly turn things around - I HATED the script for 'Fright Night' yet the film comically enough became one of my favorites of that year. Saying that, at this point - from the script - it seems to be halfway between cliched scares and original scares. Meaning both are right (unless they took out some of the cliche ones that were on the page). Imagining a solid 7/10 basically.

It had its moments, but too much cliche horror moments all throughout the film. And you can basically see the ending about 15 minutes into the movie. I thought it was gonna be a classic. Ethan Hawke gave it all BTW.

6.5/10

Well I am glad you guys like it, for me it just didn't do anything. I mean nothing really happens in the movie until the last 5 min. There are a few jump scares but they are mostly lame horror cliches and the super 8 films are creepy/ disturbing but I just expected more. I mean they are advertising the heck out of the the spirit/ demon or whatever it is on posters and what not but he's barely even in the movie. At least with the Paranormal Activity movies the ending is climatic or has some kind of pay off but with this it was just meh.

Yeah, most of the good scares were on the ads. Probably the only issue I had with it.
