Sinister (2012)- Ethan Hawke

A very well made character driven horror movie that doesn't disappoint you. It's not for those that want to see a jump scare every 5 minutes. Ethan Hawk did a great job as the lead as well as Carlyle for the story he wrote with the director, I was really interested in it. The movie does have a interesting turn but it's something you kinda see half way in [BLACKOUT](Probably from the very begining like I did).[/BLACKOUT]
8.5/10

My local theater had a movie pumpkin contest so I decided to honor my favorite horror film of the year.

I was very glad to see I wasn't the only Sinister fan in the contest!

The ending of the movie really killed whatever tension and dread was built up prior to it... at least for me it did. Really pissed me off more than anything. Seemed like a quick, cheap wrap up to a good build up.

Enjoyed it, probably because I hadn't seen any trailers and went in blind. But yeah, the ending was anti-climatic, was expecting the ghoul to take centre stage. They had a chance to create a genuinely unsettling modern monster but kind of blew it.

Weird, I was so ambivalent to this when I watched it the other night, but the more I think about the more I kinda liked it.
And personally, I think I like the way they kept the big bad quite obscure and unknowable... It was a much welcome Lovecraftian touch in a medium that all too often resorts to having it's bad guys just chasing the heroes up the stairs at the end or whatever.

And Young's music was just fantastic.

I had a chance to see this over the weekend and I enjoyed it. I watched it knowing basically nothing about it other than is was a horror movie, which might have helped. I thought the Super 8 films were really creepy and the overall feel of the movie was tense.

It did seem to wrap up rather quickly, but I guess I kind of saw that coming. I really enjoyed it, though. I watched this at home alone with all the lights off, so I was getting freaked out here and there.

Just watched this last night. I thought the visuals and cinematography worked well, especially the initial scene. Wish I was in the theater to gauge people's reaction to that. It was creepy and unsettling.

Music was intense and placed well throughout I thought.

My audience was pretty shocked by the first scene. They wasn't expecting it to last as long as it did, nor where they expecting the methodical way it played out.

The movie did everything right, but it failed to stir something in me.

This movie was pretty creepy. Made my GF scream a few times lol.

I do question some things though..

Why someone would creep around a house in the dark when hearing noises and not turn on some lights ;)

How do children manage to move full grown adults to some of the places..
into a car, on lawn chairs, lifted to standing positions hung on a tree.

Really good movie. I always say all horror movies can only go as far as the acting. WHen you have good acting like this one did it makes the story that much more scary. Just watched it with all the lights off and I was a creeped out every now and then. The story and mystery was really fun. It was a little predictable towards the end. I'm not a hawke fan but he was really good in this. Gave one of the best male performances in a horror movies I've seen in a while. Have to give this movie a B

The one thing that has to stop though are the kids drawing images of the ghost, for the ghost, for whatever. It's old now.

I haven't seen it, but the Red Letter Media guys completely spoiled the ending (Yes, that's my fault, don't worry, I'm not complaining.) Is the ending filmed in a way where [BLACKOUT]a family member of the girl possibly survived the axe attack? [/BLACKOUT]

Other wise it would seem a sequel would be more of the same.

[blackout]Highly unlikely. [/blackout]

Cool. I missed it theatrically, but I'll catch it on rental. I'm really glad there's some good new haunted house films out there.

I can't see your response because of that black bar

I did that intentionally because I posted a spoiler. You can highlight it with your mouse to see what I said.

I thought it was damn good. Not as good as Insidious, but close.

Insidious was awful. I literately lost my drink when the old lady put on the gas mask lol. That movie got a F when I reviewed it.

Insidious was awesome.

But, the funny thing?

One's opinion is not a fact, as far fetched as that notion sounds.

The only truth is that there is no truth.

Insidious was uneven, especially with the second half but how can anyone dismiss it with an F? I honestly think we should encourage more movies like Insidious in the Horror genre, even if it's not to your liking.

You really don't see the problem with global nihilism there?

Entered the movie expecting nothing, it was a shocker to see it was enjoyable
He played the rolls so many times, but that is the most relaxing most enjoyable part of the film

Sinister introduces some neat elements - if stretched, the end result could have been a breath of fresh air to the horror genre. Instead, Sinister leads us down a the same silly road, where the murderer is an uninspired character that made me laugh harder than Freddy Kruger playing the Power Glove!

Bagul lmao.
