It's no worse than calling a dark-skinned person a ******, which is "just" a restatement of the word negro, which "only" means a person with dark skin. Or calling a chinese person a chink. Or a hispanic person a spic. Or a jewish person a jew. Or a homosexual person a homo.

It's actually pretty characteristic of slurs, that the slurs a marginalized or oppressed group will use to describe the group oppressing them will focus on some particular characteristic of that group, while the slurs that the majority or oppressing group puts on the socially inferior population is typically just some restatement of that group's name, because the entire point is to recharacterise the existence of that group itself as a negative thing.

"Humie" doesn't work as a slur any more than "Whitey" or "Hetero" because the dominant population is typically not made to feel perpetually ashamed and inferior and less-than-human based on the simple fact of being white or heterosexual or non-mutant. Whereas the aforementioned slurs do work because such people are, in a bigoted society, continually treated as though their race or sexuality or I don't know, ability to shoot lasers out of their eyes is a negative and shameful characteristic.

A slur that popped up in Genosha a lot was genejoke. Halfscan is also a term used within the Mutant community for a weak, pathetic, or otherwise unremarkable mutant, and I suppose it could also be the equivalent of calling someone an uncle tom.

 

How is that pronounced? Do you pronounce the words "gene" and "joke" separately, or would it be something like the "gene" pronunciation in "genesis" followed by "joke"?

I've heard Jewish people and non-Jewish people call Jews "Jew," and I'm American. I didn't think it was a slur.

I never got what that meant.

Well, yeah. But isn't that more because you've attached "****ing" as an adjective? Just like I would expect calling someone a dirty Jew would be a bad thing, too. But that's like calling someone a dirty American. Is "American" a slur as well?

 

No no no, the word "Jew" just sounds like an ethnic slur, they do refer to themselves as Jews.

 

"Jew" is definitely not a slur. The most common racial slur for Jews is "****."

Edit: Huh, apparently the slur is censored. Which is odd, considering how many slurs fifthfiend had in his post that weren't. Anyway the word I'm trying to spell is, k?ke, where the ? is replace with an I.
