Musical Smash on NBC

I swear, the kid that plays Leo has to be related to one of the higher-ups on the show because that kid can not act!

Agreed. It was such a great and emotional moment between Messing and James but the guy playing Leo just made his part come off like a high school play.

I got caught up today, and I think the show is starting to pick back up slightly.

Tom's number was good this week but they could kill off him, Jules, Ellis, Dev and Jules son to remove the irritating factor. Derek is increasingly becoming the shows best character.

I like Tom. :o He's the show's like one truly good person who doesn't feel like Mary Sue (coughMcPheecough).

I used to like Jules but her character has been turned pretty awful as the season has progressed.

I also enjoyed Tom's number. They honestly looked happy when they were doing that song. I liked that. This show can be overly serious at times. It needs to lighten up some more.

Leo can just go to college and come back once every season, or not at all.
I know that he got in trouble for smoking pot in the show, but that kid acts like he's high during filming.

I can see them getting rid of Dev, in fact I'd like them to. His plot is not interesting at all and not even relevant to the show. It would also help Karen become Marilyn even more, because she had so many lovers who left her, or she left.

Ellis... I can see him getting hit by a taxi, and no one mourning... :o

I've always liked Derek. I'll always take the outright ***hole over the person who is also an ***hole, but pretends not to be one (which accounts for nearly everyone else on the show).

All the relationship drama on the show is really forced and cliche. It's really dragging the show down.

Pretty much it. I'd say only Tom, Karen and back up dancer #3 (:hehe: ) are not *******s. And with Karen she is so good, she's probably one and just doesn't know it yet. That's for season 2, I am sure.

I don't know about Tom. He has his moments...

Though, granted, those moments are more *****y than ***holey.

What is wrong with McPhee's voice? I knew she was a bad actress, but her singing voice just sounds off, which is a shame because I liked her when she was on Idol. Maybe it's the autotune.

I liked the latest episode, I'm surprised to say. By intentionally letting things become a train wreck with Uma Thurman's character (and admitting she can't sing), the show is openly allowed to delve into mediocrity which can hide its own. ;)

Seriously though, I found it entertaining.

Deadline:
Josh Safran To Join ‘Smash’ As Showrunner
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Safran is finalizing a deal to join NBC’s musical drama series Smashas executive producer for next season. He will succeed creator/executive producer/showrunner Theresa Rebeck who departed the series shortly after it was renewed for a second season last month. A number of showrunners interviewed for the job until Safran was identified as the choice about a week ago. UTA-repped Safran spent the last five years on the CW soap Gossip Girl, rising through the ranks to an executive producer.

Not what I'd call a step up. What little I've seen of Gossip Girl has been a mess. The characters are just so unlikable. And this is coming from someone who's pretty head over heels for Leighton Meester.

Well for anyone still watching the show, NBC is going to hold back the 2nd season till midseason sadly. Though I guess that means no reruns.

I'm actually fine with that. It'll nice to have something new to watch while all the other shows are on their winter hiatus.

Caught up on the last ep, Jesus Julia is such a pain in the ass, her anger at Tom was laughable, she brought everything on herself and then expects her partner to sacrifice his career for her mistakes.

Her pity party was irritating and when her the doormat and the giant dough rag doll showed up I rolled my eyes, then you have Michael, a giant festering disease of a man, I hope they kill him off, maybe Mangelica Huston's gangster barman can strangle him.

Dev is such a weedy turd, dude spends the night doinking Ivy and her chest cannons then forgets the ring, then gets his guilty face on which looks similar to a face of a man who just took a huge crap in their kegs and must keep going, honestly have the gangster barman kill him as well.

Speaking of murder I guess Uma Thurman is going to let Ellis get away with spiking her drink which could have killed her, unless she is secretly going to get the gangster barman to kill him.

Not enough Derek this week but Kat McPhee! :hrt:

The show was being merciful to us. :oldrazz:

Yeah, the songs are good and the actual stuff of staging a musical is good. But almost all the characters were detestable by the end. I know we're supposed to love Karen, but her oblivious Mary Sue routine ("I'm in tech!") is really grating. It also doesn't help that Ivy is way more talented and suited for the role. So much so, they make us root by Karen by turning Ivy into super-***** with the whole Dev thing. And all that soap opera at the end. Eegh.

Well, I hope they fix its problems for next year or it will be the last year.

The last number was really great.

It's on NBC, it could be cancelled or limp to a third season. Who knows.

'Smash' Season 2: Ellis, Dev Characters Leaving The Show

The cast of "Smash" Season 2 will look a bit different. According to EW, Ellis (Jaime Cepero) and Dev (Raza Jaffrey) will be written out of the show as part of the creative overhaul.

A source close to the series confirmed to The Huffington Post that both characters could appear in Season 2 to wrap-up their storylines.

UPDATE: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brian d'Arcy James and Will Chase are also leaving the series. Chase played Michael Swift, the leading man of the show's fictional musical and one-time lover to Debra Messing's Julia. James played Frank, Julia's husband.

Season 1 of "Smash" ended with Eileen (Anjelica Huston) firing Ellis before Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) took the stage as Marilyn Monroe in the Boston previews of the fictional musical "Bombshell."

Meanwhile, Karen learned of Dev's affair with Ivy (Megan Hilty) ... just episode after he proposed to Karen. While Karen was belting out "Don't Forget Me" to a packed house, her old rival Ivy was seen with quite a few pills in hand.

But rest assured Team Ivy fans, she'll be back.

"Well, I'm here," Hilty told The Huffington Post with a laugh on the red carpet at NBC's upfront presentation in May 2012. NBC has scheduled "Smash" Season 2 for a midseason debut.

The new season will be overseen by former "Gossip Girl" executive producer Josh Safran and the stars are already hoping -- and know -- of some changes.

"I want to see Ivy kind of get it together a little bit and have something she can really celebrate and not feel threatened by anything," Hilty said. "I would also like to see her have a nice boyfriend, one who's like really nice to her."

Christian Borle, who plays Tom on "Smash," said his character will have a bit more fun with Julia (Debra Messing). "You'll get to see more of the behind the scenes parts of what it takes to write a musical. People want a little bit more of that."

In April 2012, TVLine asked Cepero about Season 2 and the possibility of his character Ellis meeting a bitter end. But, at the time, the actor seemed confident of Ellis' return for more slithering around in Season 2.

"Nothing’s set in stone, but I’ve gotten a pretty generous rundown of what’s happening with my character in Season 2, and you can definitely look out for him a lot, doing some more [sneaky things]. I’m probably going to be even more hated," Cepero said.

SPECTERRRRRRRRRR!!!! :argh:

Eh. Still great news. Give Messing something to do that isn't just dead weight for the show.
