Musical Smash on NBC

SPECTERRRRRRRRRR!!!! :argh:

Eh. Still great news. Give Messing something to do that isn't just dead weight for the show.

I'm surprised they didn't just give the boot to her son Leo too and just make her a single woman.

Those were without doubt the right ones to boot, Leo should be added to the list, he can leave with his Dad.

Kinda disappointed Dev is leaving, but glad Ellis is gone.
They could just completely cut out showing Messing's family altogether and just make it seem like all is well at home.

I'm so happy that Ellis is gone. Now if only they can get rid of that pesky caveman of a kid...

I can't see Leo sticking around if his dad doesn't. Unless every episode is "Take Your Child To Work" Day, in which case Derek would probably rage so hard that Julia keeps Leo home simply out of fear for his safety. :o

TV Line:
Smash Exclusive: Newsies Star Jeremy Jordan Joins Season 2 Cast as a Series Regular

Smash is back in the news-ies.

Rising Broadway heartthrob Jeremy Jordan, who earned a 2012 Tony nod for his starring role in Newsies, is joining the second season of NBC’s musical drama as a series regular, TVLine has learned.

Jordan will play a very sexy (and straight) Brooklyn-born singer with a self-destructive streak.

His character is one of three roles being added under new showrunner Josh Safran. The other newbies, gay Broadway dreamer Joe and African-American chorus member Courtney, have yet to be cast.

The trio will fill the void left by departing castmembers Jaime Cepero (Ellis), Raza Jaffrey (Dev) and Brian D’Arcy James (Frank).

Jordan — who will continue to appear in Newsies while he shoots Smash — guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU in 2008 and also had a role in the Queen Latifah comedy Joyful Noise.

He's a cutie. Still upset Dev is leaving though.

Deadline:
Jennifer Hudson To Recur On NBC’s ‘Smash’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

She already has an Oscar, a Golden Globe a Grammy. Now Jennifer Hudson is going for an Emmy. The Dreamgirls co-star is set to appear in a multi-episode arc on NBC’s musical drama Smash next season, beginning with the second-season premiere. Hudson will play Veronica Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who impacts the lives of Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). “This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business and that’s a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson,” NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said. “Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it.” The stint reunites Hudson with Smash executive producer Steven Spielberg whose company DreamWorks also produced Dreamgirls. “I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC,” he said. Smash will now feature two famous American Idol alumnas next season, McPhee, who was a finalist in Season 5, and Hudson, who was in the third season of the reality series.

Will the guy who had the affair with Debra Messing's character still be on the show? I think they should kick him out instead of Brian D'Arcy James. I hated the affair storyline.

He's gone too. Those two plus the guys who played Ellis and Dev are done. There's a chance any or all four could be back to wrap up their storylines, but after they do they're done.

That's good to hear. I feel bad for Brian D'Arcy James because I do like him. They should definitely focus more on McPhee and Hilty's characters. They should keep McPhee single and just have a revolving door of love interests for her.

TV Line is saying that Daniel Sunjata has been cast as a love interest for Julia. Now, Debra Messing is one fine ass woman, but with the way her character is, this dude is way out of her league.

Will and Karen are going to be so jealous!

Smash has cast Sean Hayes in a multi-episode Season 2 arc, reuniting him with his former Will & Grace co-star Debra Messing. Per NBC, Hayes will play Terrence Falls, a comedic television and film star who is making his Broadway debut in the musical Liaisons, based on the novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

Due to a series of comic circumstances, he becomes a major thorn in the side for Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and other characters (one of whom, presumably, will be Messing’s Julia).

NBC is keeping Hayes rather busy these days. The actor-producer is also set to recur on Up All Night as an accompanist who worked with Maya Rudolph’s Ava.

Smash is slated to return to NBC’s lineup at midseason.

I quit on this show about five episodes in last season. Did it ever get any better?

Not really. But they have made some changes for season 2 so it might be worth it to take another look.

It never really got better, but it's still better than Glee. So it has that going for it.

lol No, it's not. Glee, in all it's ridiculousness and silly writing, at least knows how to have fun. This show, not so much.

Glee is the biggest pile of stinking turd on television. The entire first season of Smash doesn't induce the sick feeling that 10 seconds of any Glee episode does.

But hey... opinions and stuff. :o

Smash has tapped another musical veteran for its upcoming season.

Nikki Blonsky, who starred in the 2007 film version of Hairspray, has landed a recurring role in NBC's Broadway drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Though there's no word on who she'll be playing, Smash star Wes Brown broke the casting news by tweeting a picture of the actress on set.

Last week, the show announced that it was adding original Rent cast member Jesse L. Martin to the cast. Jennifer Hudson and Sean Hayes will also be on board for Season 2.

Smash returns at midseason on NBC.
