first the big chairs announcement with very few women, then the cast pic on their free time.... 0 X-women announced.......

I'm still holding out hope that Daredevil, Punisher and the other Defenders are in this film. The other Defenders don't need huge roles considering the massive cast list already. Maybe something along the lines of Wong's role in Infinity War.
 
Daredevil and the Punisher, yes. The rest, its fine to me if they don't show up.

I think its combination of doing something left field, Kevin Feige must be fond of the Eternals in the comics. Then business wise, to levitate another Marvel IP in terms of popularity/sales. It worked with Guardians of the Galaxy before, and Disney also wanted to do the same thing with Inhumans, when they couldn't make movies for the Fantastic 4 and the X-Men.

I think with the integration of Deadpool, Fantastic and the X-Men into the Mcu, the line up for Doomsday and Secret Wars just became too big, that they couldn't squeeze Eternals anymore. The critical reception is also another thing, unlike Sam Wilson/Ant-Man who were in the mcu a decade ago - the Eternals haven't encountered any of the Avengers and they already have two more popular teams (X-Men and Fantastic 4) that they need to establish connection with the Avengers and 616 Earth.
