God, I'm really hating fandom right now for threads like this.

have to agree. I've had fun with this, but its past saturation now. The surest way to drive Quesada mad would be to send a CD-Rom of this message board and CBR forums, not to mention the Marvel Board (which is shut down or crashed, I wonder why). The 500 threads with approximately 85,000 responses will surely make the man dive for a window.

Not after he sees the sales charts. Then he'd look back on these threads and laugh his head off.

Yeah, Quesada couldn't care less about what you think. Money talks, and since he took office, money hasn't stopped talking.

Quesada better care what people think. Regardless of whether he wins a 'victory' with an initial sales bump, its purchasing power that feeds his meal ticket. A buisness exists to service customers, not the other way around. So sure, I wouldn't be shocked if there's some brief 'sugar high' with people who don't follow Ultimate and think this is hot crap because of webshooters, single Pete and Osborne. But what's the long term deal here? Again, I smell another change at some point in the future. Count on it. They've painted themselves in a corner. I don't care what crap Marvel spins out of this. You can't go back to being two dimensional and say its the real thing.

Sales will never flag on Spider-Man, no matter how much you'd like them to. Trust me, Quesada doesn't have to listen on the fans on this one.

Granted, I don't pretend to know how this will turn out. But never say never...JMS said that the "Other" would be permanent changes for Peter. Didn't work out that way. Now, we're back to the trinkets and the Single Peter, which now will be canon. And so it goes. The only thing that stayed consistent is Gwen's out of the picture, and I understand there was arguing on that topic, too. It also amazes me how consumers fail to understand what purchasing power really can do. I'm not petitioning any cause. But sales do fluctuate when people aren't interested, and cancellations happen. SpiderGirl was saved from the brink several times by some passionate readers who petitioned hard. The sales numbers weren't good at one time. So you never know. I personally didn't care for that title, but I respect it when people are driven about characters they like. I mean shoot, you spend your money you should get quality.

Sure it did. Pete's just using his fallible mechanical webshooters instead of his organic ones.

I won't be surprised when there's a crossover with Ultimate vs the regular Marvel U mini. Ultimate will probably be just as messed up with continunity as the regular MArvel U in a couple of years....so it would be a way to streamline everything with a new number 1 issue.

That would amount to a Crisis. Take the good from both major universes, discard the bad, and start fresh.

I never bought it for one second when JQ said that they saved that title because of "fan outcry." I think they keep it around for one reason: demographics. I think they think it's a toe in the door for teenage girls. Just like Runaways. Fans yelled just as loud for other titles that have gone by the wayside since then (MTU and Thing comes to mind)

The problem is that Spider-Man's sales will probably not falter significantly for this, which, when you compare it to the huge outcry over OMD, implies that people are either still willing to spend their money on things they don't perceive as quality or that the fan outcry really is that of a vocal minority, and that the majority of Spider-Man readers are perfectly happy with the changes and willing to pay to see more.

Sales for the first issue will got through the roof, just because retailers will not want to be caught shorthanded. The thing to look for is whether or not it gets a second printing, and how well it's doing a couple months from now. Right now, all the orders for the first several issues have been placed.

maybe hulk will just thunder clap reality into a singularity out of which a more sensible marvel reality can emerge.
or they could do something less lame like having the entire MU sit down for ice cream and laugh about old times.

Marvel doesn't need a crisis but I've said for awhile that Joey Q's event for either 09 or 10 will be a crisis like event. In Ultimate Power one of the SS told Cap he knew him but he was different. Guarantee it will happen in 2 years when the SHRA and other events don't line up to Marvel's liking. :o

No,i don't think Marvel should have a reboot. But i might change my mind, bad writing is everywhere now..

I think Joephisto actually should be the honoree in the naming of a new variant of "Mary Sue", which is what he's doing here, using Peter Parker as a proxy for his own life and experiences, to the detriment of the story.

What's a good term?

Mary Joe?
Marry Sue?
Joe Q. Sue?
Joe Parker?
Peter Queseda?

There should DEFINITELY be a term for what Joe has done here, and I think it's big enough that his name should live in INfamy forever.

Wikipedia is your friend. Look it up.

A "Mary Sue" is a character in a story that is clearly meant to act as a better-than-reality stand-in for the writer himself. In this case, it's Joe Q making himself Peter Parker, so he can then retcon his own life in print form. If anything, this whole thing makes me believe Joe Q is very unhappy as a married man, and wishes he could "mack" on girls. He also wants his mother to be alive, because of the sad past he experienced.

He's doing all this through Spider-Man. He has essentially cast himself as Peter Parker, and "fixing" his life that way.

Or so it seems, anyway.

Yeah, man. I don't think this anything to do with Quesada's personal life.
