I wasn't around for M-day but god I hate it. It seems however that mutants are being repowered by one means or the other and I wondered how long do you think it'll be before there's a sweeping recovery of mutant powers?

X-Factor seems to be headed in that direction, and I doubt Marvel ever intended this to be permanent (even if they didn, it's a comic). I'd say within a year or two. You'd think that that event would be pretty significant, and we haven't heard anything about it yet for 2007; the big push is on World War Hulk.

The lame-ass Legacy Virus lasted for what, like ten years? So yeah, I can see this lasting a while.

In all honesty, there are some pretty not-inconsequential reasons why Marvel has to keep the lion's share of the mutant population hamstrung, by one means or another.

Go ahead and list them. For the record I never liked the legacy virus either since it made no sense. Question, aren't the celestials supposedly responsible for the large number of mutants on earth?

I refuse on the grounds that I am so vastly superior to ordinary mortals such as yourself that for such as you my edicts should be as unto wisdom received from on high, self-evident and unquestionable.

What mutants have even really lost their powers? None of the main characters. The closest thing to one is Polaris, and she has new powers from Apocalypse. It just seems like the only real reason behind the decimation was to make it more of an exclusive thing, and to get rid of a large unused section of characters.

Doesn't this basically destroy one of the core concepts of the X-Men? They're supposed to be fighting for mutant civil rights...but now mutants have gone from a significant minority group to a couple hundred people. They're even outnumbered by Siamese twins (between 1 and 2 births per day). Mutancy is no longer a big issue involving millions of people around the world, but just the X-Men and a bunch of other people.

Iceman got depowered by Bendis and then Milligan repowered him within a week.

Polaris got her powers back. Quicksilver got some powers back, along with most of the residents of Genosha. Magneto will probably get his powers back the next time we see him. And we know Jubilee is going to get powers again. Gee, all that House of M fall-out is looking so very important right now, ain't it?

Exactly. Which is why Decimation was such a stupid idea and the sooner that it gets done, the sooner we can get back to telling X-Men stories that really matter.

198 people is not a minority culture. 198 people is a Swedish village.

Decimation was a failed experiment right for the outset; hardly any of the X-writers felt like paying much attention to it other than some vapid lip-service. And the books that actually focused on it came across as two-dimensional and uninteresting. Not to mention it made the entire Marvel universe look like inexperienced n00bs who let the bad guys walk all over them. And not to mention it made the X-Men look like p**sies who bent over backwards to kowtow to bigotted humans who put death machines in their home.

Until Bendis say's it no longer the greatest idea ever.

Exactly. The mansion has lot and lots of defenses. Why would they need Sentinels to watch over them???? Why arent the X-men more pissed about this than I???

Son of M was good though :o

And of course, the Sentinels ended up being far more useful against the mutants at the mansion than they were against actual enemies that they were supposed to protect the mutants from. Seriously, they'd be destroyed once every two weeks or so by the X-villain of the day, and yet Rachel or Sam could sneeze wrong and they'd have lasers aimed at their heads.

Oh yeah, I agree. How ironic that it was a story mostly about mutants getting their powers back and undoing the travesties of M-Day:p.

(smirk)

It is NEVER that easy or straightforward.
I predict that sumbody will die just like the last TWO TIMES to usher in a change for mutant kind.
