... which is on in the UK tomarrow [I think] and I downloaded the 400 nominations and Spidey 2 was the only superhero movie to be there.

I think thats great credit to Raimi and the cast and crew that they managed to get there being in an unfancied genre, even though I don't it will make the final 100.

Perhaps because Spidery movies have always been clean American soap operas more than anything else, including being a superhero movie.
Is there any other superhero flick that shows American values so profoundly?
I don’t think there will be another till Captain America comes out.

    What American values is that?

Spider-Man 2 is about a man being broken by a burden of responsiblity.

Where's the US flag in Spidey 2? Not saying you're wrong I just can't remember it.

    Err…you got me there.
Have to rewatch it for that but in any case it still had that clear happy go lucky New Yorker soap opera TV show comedy feel to it. While SM1, SM3 and Superman Returns are very distinctive superhero movies.

There's a scene where rows of American flags hang from houses (including May's).

Yeah I'm pretty sure this aired in the summer in the U.S. I watched it unless theres a updated list. Spidey wasn't on the final 100, but At the begining when they were showing clips from movies, they showed Spidey crawling up a wall during a fight with Ock.

MJD, do you have a link to where these nominations are listed? I'd be interested in seeing what else was nominated.

Doesn't surprise me, SM-2 is definitely the best comic book adaptation to date

Yeah, this aired over the summer and Spidey didn't make the cut. As much as love all things Spider-man, I kind of agree that the only reason this made it and X2 or Batman Begins didn't is that this is a classic Hollywood style movie. A man being broken by responsibility? That's a quite popular theme in Hollywood, see: It's a Wonderful Life, Raging Bull, and, well, that list could go on.

As much as I love Spidey, I think Batman Begins is a better film. :-o

I think Batman Begins is more deserving, Spidey 2 is a good movie but overrated, IMO

meh batman begins has so many problems...IMO it is one of the most overrated superhero movies...but i totally enjoyed it.

i enjoyed spidey1-2 as well as supes 1-2 and SR more.

the problem with BB is that if you want to make it so "realistic" and base it in such a "realistic" world, then you don't have an immortal villian. as well as a vehicle that jumps buildings. and that certain vehicles are gov't contracts, yes failed...but still nobody knows about them? nobody who saw the batmobile running over cop cars and jumping building to building )ON THE 6 O'CLOCK NEWS NONETHELESS) was like "****, i worked on THAT project". and c'mon...if you didnt think tht was just a little unrealistic.....wow

oh yeh....silly me..they signed a confidentiality agreement..which means they would NEVER talk no matter how much the enquirer offered them.

BB was a good film..but the way it is treated like the godfather around hree...c'mon....people cn't see the forest for the trees

Well good for Spidey. I'm not surprised it was picked as the only superhero movie for consideration. Despite what people ***** about Raimi, it is the best made superhero movie to date. Yeah, BB was darker and "more mature," but that does not equate better quality. SM2 is paced almost perfectly and all the characters are completely well rounded and developed. Even bit players have personality in a story that moves great and exhilerates the audience. BB has a pacing and character issues.

With that said there are about 1,000 better American movies (probably more) than SM2, so I'm glad it didn't end up on the top 100.

SM2 is definitely the best superhero movie made so fare, with a great villain, good acting, nice script, and involving characters. TDK has the potential to top it, but has to improve on BB in the way that SM2 did on SM1.
So, yeah, SM2 deserves that recognition.
