So I was making a Baked Potato in the Microwave

And it started to do that lightning bolt thing like there was metal in there, but there was ONLY a potato. No foil, no silverware, no metal of any sort...I could put the potato in the regular oven now, but I am sorta scared to eat it.

That lightning occurs because the air between two metallic objects becomes electrically charged from metal in the microwave reflecting microwave energy. Your potato should be fine to eat, but you may want to test your microwave to see if you get lightning again. It may be malfunctioning.

I remember doing experiments in science class with potatoes, actually. With a bit of water and a little bit of salt or sugar (not entirely necessary), a potato can actually serve as an electrical conduit. It's possible that your potato started conducting electricity inside the microwave. Was the potato damp or wet?
