So now they're suddenly promising the costume...

Have you? Do you disagree with our educated guess that the costumes will show up at the very end, which makes a lot of sense given what we know? What have the film makers said, done, or presented that would lead us to think otherwise?

Preach! :mnm:

Yeeesh... yeah you're probably right, it's a shame the bar is so low for this to warrant a sequel. I hope the reshoots and last minute marketing end up inflating the budget way higher than Fox originally anticipated.

It's pretty ridiculous isn't it. After the Harry Potter films and more recently Hunger Games and Twilight have spawned the novel into film craze, where most of the output is pure crap.

Fox is pretty much directly responsible for two such failures in Eragon and Percy Jackson, but at least Eragon didn't have a sequel made.

In both those efforts there was the same blatant disregard of the fanbase who made the novels so popular, and resulted in films that neither the fans wanted nor the general public.

But cheap studios like Fox and Lionsgate have figured out how to scam the public in producing movies on a TV show budget and getting a huge rush of the fanboys/girls to put money in it on opening weekend but then see the films quickly die off. Not all have been as successful as Twilight and Hunger Games in that regard, and Hunger Games is unique in that it's actually a pretty good story with good acting and actors like Jennifer Lawrence who they never would have been able to afford if the films were being made right now.

Twilight is the ultimate success in cheap film making. The first film was made on $37M and it made just under $400M WW. Only the last installment had a budget over $100M and the last two chapters were filmed simultaneously, so the budget is a bit over inflated because it was spread across two films.

It's not going to surprise me if they continue with sequel plans even if this film bombs, but with as much ill will as this film has it will be double that for the next one.

Well that's 20th century Fox for you.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, not a chance this thing goes past one sequel. This will be just like the last FF franchise fox ran into the ground, it'll run out of steam after they fast track a sequel into production. And not a chance in the world they'll cross it over with the X-men, I'll eat my own shoe when that happens.

But with those films, you have a large, young, enthusiastic (and not particularly discerning) fan-base who will see the films no matter what.

I believe many people underestimate the broad, general interest in FF, but I don't think those fans are the type that will see it no matter what (we're older and wiser:cwink:). Fox is in a better situation than they would be with a completely unknown property, but they're not in the Twilight, guaranteed audience realm. (though maybe Fox does think they're going to take advantage of dumb, young money by going the UFF route).

And that's one thing that drives me crazy when people defend indefensible elements of this project. The last thing I want is a Twilight-like take on the FF for people who will see any garbage the studio gives them.

Yup. Fox never passes up the opportunity for a short term profit grab. If they actually thought more than 1 or 2 years ahead at a time, they could build up some respectable franchises and make even more money. They were actually building up some credibility again with First Class and The Wolverine -- and even DoFP although personally I was disappointed with Singer's return -- but then they pissed it all away with this less then enthusiastic treatment of the FF. This whole project has reeked from the start of a last minute rights grab being shot and marketed on the cheap.

They never said there wouldn't be the traditional costumes. So it's not "sudddenly" and thus no backtracking in any way.

Like most recent origin movies they'll start with a prototype costume and then get a regular one near the end

The "fan"base simply refused to look to the future and realise this is the first movie and wouldn't deliver everything in one go. Movies these days aren't made to be one-offs they're made to last years of sequels. So rather than deliver the costumes right away they introduce them halfway through or near the end then have them for the whole of the sequel.

Batman begins, amazing spider-man, Captain America, Guardians. They all did this, they all started with prototype costumes

The reshoots were confirmed by the writer to have only been a few days and not reshooting the whole movie as some like to think nor would they even reshoot based on the feedback of a small select amount of the fanbase who have hated the movie since the cast was announced and in some cases befor then

You really don't know what the "fan base" sees...

I don't remember them ever saying they wouldn't have the traditional costumes in some form or fashion....?

I think if you look at everything we have seen and heard, it's a fair assumption that people would think that we would be seeing the costumes from the comics as such.

The first movie we heard from the actors all about the fittings, and we actually saw the costumes in the very first teaser trailer, and everything else afterwards, we saw Sue on ET within the first month of filming wearing the Blue suit with the 4...we have heard absolutely nothing more than containment suits. As fans on all of these sites have been talking about the suits for quite a while now, you would think that we would have at the least, "heard something" so with the silence....well people are going to wonder.

And now for the latest controversy. Apparently Fox received such a backlash over the costumes that they are going to digitally change the color schemes to the classic light and dark blue:

Now compare this to the trailer at 1:35 (especially look at Sue)

They are NOT going to change the costumes digitally from black to blue. Sheesh.

Some of you guys have no clue about photoshop feature

Spreading unnecessary rumours..."apparently they changed after backlash". They ain't changing jack****...deal with it

I'm a semi-professional photographer. I have used Photoshop many times. I know all about color correction.

I wonder why you are so upset about this?

Its just blue lighting. Look at some of the stills in the no-discussion pictures thread for the same effect. Blue lighting on a black costume does not a blue suit make.

It's just a bluish tint to the over all picture....studios put out posters like that all the time....it has nothing to do with what the suits should or shouldn't look like.

Dude, they are showing their powers and Sue is semi-invisible.

Reed's not showing his powers. Apparently showing a stretchy guy is just silly.

Normally I would agree without question. However, this same studio did the same exact thing with Piccolo in Dragonball Evolution. So I can't 100% rule it out.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but what did they do there? I didn't really follow that film, and it was in and out of the theaters so quick I kind of forgot about it.

I think they digitally changed the color of his skin and suit? in film.

Apparently it was super awful.

Orginally, for God knows what reason, they made Piccolo some sort of sickly yellow color. When fans went berzerk, they digitally altered him to make him green at the last minute.

I like the look of Thing...BIG....and doesn't look like orange styrofoam.

I worked for a summer in the packaging part of a major tool company. There was this stuff that we sprayed into the boxes around the individual tools that were in plastic bags, when it hit the air it would begin to harden, but you could pull it a part fairly easily so it was great to hold the tools in place while in route to their destination and I always thought that Thing in the first two movies looked like that stuff hardened, only orange.

What would be your way of showing his power in that pic?

Reaching for the light?

Trying to stir up controversy that isn't there is more like it.

I don't think they are changing the color because of the discussions on sites such as this either, but you really need to stop with the "spreading unnecessary rumors" crap, it is getting old fast.

You can disagree with a posters opinion without this type of posting...

Original trailer screen shot, 'photo filter' + 'cooling blue', and the levels tweaked. About 3 mins worth with photoshop:

They have been able to do more with different shots of Teller and Mara, and they lightened the back on the Thing, but I'd agree it is just a filter for the poster.

Reaching for the light, elongating his body to get a better look. Anything but him standing there like a dunce.
