So now they're suddenly promising the costume...

During production of the first Tim Story film, I remember being told things from people working on the film that turned out to be exaggerations or outright lies (such as Avi Arad saying they would fix the wrinkles in The Thing's suit with CGI), that I'm going to need more than Miles Teller hinting that maybe we'll get better looking suits at some point - possibly not until the sequel - to breathe a sigh of relief.

The costumes we've seen look awful and they will almost certainly be the suits worn by the characters through most of the film.

Show me something better and I'll take a look. Until then, I'm not giving the studio the benefit of any doubts. They haven't earned it.

Funny thing is that the initial concern was with Kate Mara saying that they weren't even fitted for any costumes 2 weeks before filming. Now that clueless rhetoric and disrespectful way Trank treated fans on twitter is coming back to haunt them.

What exactly did he do to fans on twitter?

Something involving his dog and news paper. I'm sure Willie Lumpkin remembers but the just of it was to signify his feels for F4 fans or lack there of. But we'll all go see it anyway......

Hahah that quote I remember. MBJ was wrong about that one.

It's strange to have them promising the traditionnal costumes now... It's like they tried to copy the Daredevil promotion of the costume evolution now that it has become popular. Except that, from the beginning, Marvel teased that Daredevil would wear, at some point, the traditionnal red suit, and in FFINO, it just came out of nowhere after MBJ promised "very different costume", and after the new suits (expecially the Johnny and Reed ones, which are ridiculous) were heavily mocked after their reveal.

But, to be honest, Teller has always been the one who was professionnal, and the one who respected the fans in interview, whereas Trank and his "good friend" MBJ were the ones that treated fans like ****, and Kinberg was the one who tried to extinguish the fire ignited by the non professionnal behavior of the other protagonists.

To me, Teller and Kebbel are probably victims. They probably expected an ambitious movie respectful of the comic books that would have pleased the fans, and are embarrassed by what the mad director have given them.

As for the suits, either they will only appear for less than 1 minutes, and maybe won't they be even worn "until the sequel" (the Smallville syndrom) or the movie must have endured much more reshoot that expected, and will be a big mess.

Well if rumours are to believed then at the end of the movie, you see Reed design a more traditional costume and draws a picture of fantasticar. The scene will be about 50 seconds or so..boom.

Do you think we will see the traditional costumes before the movie comes out, or do you think they will save that for the film?

I think with or without rumors, it's very unlikely we'll get much more than that.

It will be better to see this film pointing toward them eventually being the Fantastic Four than not, but another origin film just seems like a bad idea from the start. You would have thought they'd learn something from Amazing Spider-Man.

Everyone is complaining about the lack of marketing from fox, but I am sure closer to release they will spoil all the good stuff and Easter eggs to sell the movie. Does not matter if it ruins the experience. So yeah even though the blue costumes might be in it for 50 seconds, they will spoil it to get as many butts as possible in the movie theatre.

I think things may have gotten a little exaggerated in the telling, and he didn't say much that was too terrible, but he did generally show a very arrogant, dismissive, insulting attitude (which may have partly just been a discomfort and unfamiliarity with Twitter).

The specific dog photo was something along the lines of: "here's what my dogs think of all the controversy regarding casting" attached to a photo of his dogs sleeping.

I think in terms of dismissing fans, he did a better job of that in his Collider interview than he did via Twitter:

Collider: Is there any last thing you want to say to fans? Because you guys have both been so quiet about the project?

TRANK: Um, how cool is that Philip Glass thing, though?

I'm a little surprised (if they do have better costumes) that wasn't the first thing they showed. That would have been my strategy even if I knew they'd only be in the film for 15 seconds.

The fact they didn't probably indicates how little screen time they will get and how they want that to be a 'ta-da' moment toward the very end.

The dog thing ain't that bad. I assume these are the same dogs that are rumored to have destroyed his house? I guess they didn't have a problem with the casting, but the rest of the movie seemed to have pissed them off :woot:
And yeah, that Collider bit was a doozy.

:lmao:

Yeah, that must have been their reaction to Bungee Reed and Garbage Bag Doom.

False marketing tends to unnecessarily increase expectations of the fans. Most of the time it backfires.

At the moment, expectations are extremely low for this movie. So it has a chance to surprise quality wise. If it still does not then to hell with fox and Josh.

I still predict this movie to be a modest success, and that's the secret weapon Fox has inadvertently utilized.

I am not talking about box office. I am talking about quality of the movie. You see I am expecting a sub 30% on RT. Anything above would be a pleasant surprise. :D

It's gonna be a hell of a thing on this board when this movie comes out if this is true.

Which I hope it is.

Lol. I'm gonna play it safe and guess somewhere in the 60's-70's.
But I'd love to be wrong.

This will be a very very interest place come August, no matter how the movie turns out.

You call that safe!!! That would be a great score for this movie. Lol

Yeah I agree with you.

If "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" can be considered a success since it spawned an ultra low budget sequel, then I'd probably agree with you. But I predict this will make even less than that, but leave the fans of the franchise pissed off the same way.

Insurgent is a good measuring stick as I think it has the same target audience this film is trying to reach and the same terrible marketing of the film. Another throw away novel to movie rendition. It made about the same as what Divergent did, slightly less, and the International market is about this same, so it's going to end up around the same place Divergent did, at $225M WW.

I predict F4 is going to end up in about the same range. It seems like a 50M'ish opening weekend, if not less, and about the same international market.

have you seen the final cut?

Have you? Do you disagree with our educated guess that the costumes will show up at the very end, which makes a lot of sense given what we know? What have the film makers said, done, or presented that would lead us to think otherwise?

Yeeesh... yeah you're probably right, it's a shame the bar is so low for this to warrant a sequel. I hope the reshoots and last minute marketing end up inflating the budget way higher than Fox originally anticipated.
