You know...that popular book by Rhonda Bryrne that topped bestsellers list and everyone was talking about it like 2 years ago and it says you can have EVERYTHING if you beleive and communicate with the universe:

yeah, well....it doesn't work :o
Its been two years and Im still not filthy rich.

I think she did a pretty good job at fooling everyone though, shes probably super rich now.

yeah, the book packages old ideas and religious thought into a spiffy book. I've read it, and it's pretty much the 'art of being selfish'. Seriously. If people bought into the junk from this book, then you can guess why we're in our economic crisis: It teaches you to get by life the easy way and not work hard for it.

Exactly....and it is probably one of the biggest lies of this decade!...a lot of people fell for it. I can tell myself all day "I will be a billionaire...no, a trillionaire"...I can say this over and over again but just saying it isnt going to do squat!
I can say "I am morbidly obese and plan on losing 200 pounds" all day but if I eat McDonalds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner...what difference does it make?

The book gave people hope...a false hope. It should've been called "How to be a dreamer for dummies". :o

Well then you're probably not doing it right. :o

kind of like jesus! :cwink:

Damn, this was my next way out of despair. Damn you!

Sounds like the book was a pre-cursor of the Obama campaign. Promises promises. False hope, false hope. All you have to do is believe and do no hard work at all. JUst vote for the Obamination.

Religion and politics threads are that way *points right*

Sorry....:csad:
Hey, look at the bright side...I just saved you ten bucks :hehe:

religion, politics, any type of social issue is part of literature.

Oh man, what a horrible scam. Book retailers just ate it up too. I remember working at Borders when it first came out and people just flocked to it. It was pretty depressing.

It doesnt work that way Sx...(funny tho) :woot: "Im going to be a billionaire." should be more like: "Im going to make ten grand in commissions this year" Something more specific. A positive mind over matter approach...And then you actually work hard to obtain that realistic goal along the way in conjunction to the positive mental state.

It also doesnt work when your appliances start making weird noises and you just tell yourself. "The fridge motor isnt going to break.":oldrazz:

Dont get me wrong tho, I think the book is bs too. This was required reading at my sisters Real estate agency(how i got my hands on it)

I remember when I watched the movie, there was this sequence of a boy wanting this bike, and one day, some old guy gave him his bike, because he wanted it

like Ed above said, wanting is just the first part, there are several other things needed into consideration:

-what are you doing to get what you want? taking the OP's complaint, what is this person doing, during these times of economical crisis, to become wealthier?

-do you really, truly, honestly need whatever it is you want so much? I can lust after a gibson sg custom, but, would it make me a better player? would I write better songs with it? or do I want it in order to get a better sound? how would that help my playing?

and we could go on and on, but I don't really see the point to it

I'm proud to say that I mocked "The Secret" right from the get-go, and here's the 2007 thread to prove it... http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=266962

Yay me.:o

I exaggerated a bit, yes...however, I used it even for smaller stuff. For instance, one time I forgot lunch money for school so I was like "I will find money, I will get lunch money somehow"...well i starved for the whole day :o :csad:

Its such a lie but yay for that lady that came up with that genius scam...I wish I did that, I would be rich...Maybe I will do it when I am older. Same idea just a different name :hehe:
