So, what's up for Game of the Year so far?

i don't know but i'm sure that after Battlefield 3 is released a friend of mine (who'se life as a gamer is basically for FPS) will say that it was the best game ever
Call of Duty fans will most likely say the same thing about MW3.
I only played Mortal Kombat and Captain America this year, both are great
After playing Batman and Uncharted I expect to give my vote to Batman, riding helicopters and fighting using a very agile characters beat everything else
Captain America was cool, even though I beat it in 6 hours and shipped it back to Gamefly the same day after getting the Platinum trophy.

But yeah, Batman looks like its going to be at least 3 times better than Arkham Asylum, which is saying something, while Uncharted may be awesome, it could very easily be more of what we're used to. But unless there's more awesome moments that haven't been spoiled or shown as a demo yet, I think it would have to be the story and voice acting that gives it a better shot at winning than the gameplay will.

Oh I forgot God Of War 3 was released in 2010.

Anyway, I think Arkham City will win it, with Uncharted 3 as a very close second.

I think it's starting to become clear that the GOTY nominees for this year are going to be Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Batman: Arkham City, Portal 2, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I think that L.A. Noire, LittleBigPlanet 2, Dead Space 2, Killzone 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, inFamous 2, Dragon Age II, Resistance 3, Catherine, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and the other AAA titles are just going to get pushed to the side this year.

Arkham City, so far.

Uncharted 3 is in second running for me, too.

I think there's going to be alot of games getting forgotten as well, hunter. I do think that of all the early games from this year, that Dead Space 2 and Portal 2 might be the only ones that don't get forgotten. Just a hunch is all.

Skyrim could change things for me, maybe.

With reviews in mind, I think Uncharted 3 will take it. And Naughty Dog deserve another GOTY

Portal 2 is still the best game I played this year.

Review-wise, yes Uncharted 3 should take it. But I can't help but feel like all of the hype behind Skyrim will make it stand out more, even though personally I have no interest in it.

Portal 2 was fun, but I kind of rushed through it and Arkham City was great but it felt underwhelming towards the end. At least with Uncharted, I felt a lasting impression after I finished it.

My top 5 this year and in order -

Batman: Arkham City - This was something that I just liked more and more as I got through it. The biggest weakness is its use of Hugo Strange and a few other characters but ultimately it hit all the right beats for me and it was something I hit new game almost as soon as I finished it.

Portal 2 - This game stuck with me after I finished it, it might not have had the SURPRISE of actually being a game that the first Portal had but it still hit really well with what was the undoubtedly the year's best character in Wheatley.

Mortal Kombat - Just really loved this game. Handled great and felt the truest to the MK tone and setting since 2.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - I actually really liked Deus Ex, probably the most out of all the games this year, but it just has too many technical issues for me to ignore. Still, really loved that game.

Dead Space 2 - The Dead Space series is definitely not about reinventing the wheel, and its definitely not the scariest game (though 2 had some tense moments) but ultimately the gameplay feels just right and they managed to make a fast-paced action game with horror elements that delighted me throughout.

Obviously, waiting on Skyrim but that's all for now.

Definitely Arkham City so far although I think Skyward Sword will shock everyone

The fact that I completely forgot Deus Ex: Human Revolution was even a thing kind of rules it out for me. :/

I agree about SS. I don't think it will blow minds, but I do think it will be underrated.

I've had the game for 2 months and I still haven't played past the opening. Not because I don't like it, but rather because there's so much else that I want to play and finish.

It'll be a close race between Batman and Uncharted 3 with Skyrim potential inching forward for the win. Batman and UC3 for me were both pretty near perfect experiences but they suffer from the same faults and thats the story.

I'd say the same to some extent, though both games disappointed me more in terms of how quickly I beat them. I just feel like 8 hours isn't enough. But personally, I love the Uncharted characters and franchise more than I do Batman so that takes first for me.

If i were part of the AIAS, id damn near have to flip a coin between Arkham City and Drakes Deception. I really thought both games were beyond fantastic. I do think the award will go to either Batman, Uncharted or Elder Scrolls. I dont see anything else getting the nod.

Yea i would of agreed with that, then Christopher Nolan came along and gave the world Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. But Nathan Drake is absolutely one of my all time favorite characters, in any medium.

I will have to go with Arkham City until Skyrim comes out

Yea i think Skyrim is the last game this year that has kind of chance getting that crown. I can't wait. This has been such a kick ass year.

It really has been a great year. I sometimes tell myself that I picked a good time to get back into video games and to finally get a PS3 because there has been so many great titles in this year alone.

True. Sadly I didn't discover Gamefly until this past summer. I had to sell some games for some quick cash when it would've been easier to just rent them since I platinumed them in less than a week. But even then, there's still a bunch of great games that are just begging to be added to my collection. But AC: Revelations should be my last purchase for the year, unless I see some good Black Friday deals.

Damn i keep forgetting about Assassins Creed. Now that iv come in to a little cash i think i might get that day one. But all my attentions will be focused on Skyrim come friday.

I want assassin's creed so badly but Zelda comes first because that will be the goty

I really wanted to like it but with the state of the AI it should never have gone gold. The compressed pre-rendered cut-scenes as well smack of lazyness. Batman, Portal 2 and Battlefield 3 are all guilty of this as well.

That's a lot of top-selling (and potentially top-selling) games you're kicking to the curb, there. And you left out one of the (already) biggest-selling sequels of all time: Gears of War 3. Plus, I have a feeling that the gamerpress is going to want to/ going to get bribed to play up this mythical "age of motion sensors" and give the top honors to one of the fitness/ sports/ dance games out there, which *always* outsell the stuff we "real" gamers latch on to.

I would say Arkham City and inFamous 2.
