Some sales numbers from Japan and UK

Me thinks that art debateable.

The Gamecube had a lot of great games like Super Smash Bros. Melee., the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, and others.

Actually, there are no "others". That's about it. And even among those games, Twin Snakes was crap. Resident Evil 4? PS2 title. Super Mario Sunshine? I can't believe anyone would call it a great game. Metroid Prime 2? Underwhelming.

The Xbox had Halo, Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Fable, Dead or Alive 3, Dead or Alive Ultimate, and others.

There's Jade Empire, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory (the SC games count because they were significantly superior on the Xbox), Chronicles of Riddick, PGR2, Jet Set Radio Future and a couple more that I can't recall yet. If that doesn't prove that the Xbox's game catalog was superior to the GC's, then I don't know what will.

The main difference is that a majority of Nintendo's awesome games were first party and Microsoft had a good blend of great first party and third party games. That helped the Xbox out a lot outside of Japan....third party support. That and online capabilites which Nintendo practically downright rejected.

Whatever the case, it not a debatable that the Xbox had a greater number of good games than the GC.

Yes, but the 360 already has a 7 million lead over Wii and an almost 8 million lead over the PS3. Even with holiday launch period sales figures, the Wii still couldn't even come close to narrowing the gap. And don't tell me the Wii isn't going to end up like the GC just because it did well at launch. So did the GC. I remember sales for the GC and Xbox being almost neck-to-neck at their respective launches, but that certainly didn't help the GC now, did it?

Except third party support declined for the Gamecube and Nintendo rejected online gameplay.

Microsoft embraced both and as a result helped it in the long run. However, that said, Microsoft barely beat Nintendo by 3.2 million units, compared to the ass raping the Playstation 2 gave to both the Xbox and Gamecube.

There are others that people liked. That was just a list of games I could come off with the top of my head that were good.

The Twin Snakes was not crap. It was awesome, though the cutscenes were rather lacking :(

Resident Evil 4? PS2 title.
I like to forget that Capcom decided to be *****ers and port Resident Evil 4.

Super Mario Sunshine? I can't believe anyone would call it a great game.
It was great dammit :cmad:. That said, the camera in the game sucked though.

Metroid Prime 2? Underwhelming.
Was not.

There's Jade Empire,
Like I said, I named those that were off the top of my head.

Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory (the SC games count because they were significantly superior on the Xbox),
Wait a minute, you count the multiplatform Resident Evil 4 against the Gamecube but the multiplatform Splinter Cell games for the Xbox. Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube was waaaay better than the Playstation 2 version in terms of graphics and controls. You're being a hypocrite here.

Chronicles of Riddick, PGR2, Jet Set Radio Future and a couple more that I can't recall yet.
Again, I was just naming things off the top of my head.

If that doesn't prove that the Xbox's game catalog was superior to the GC's, then I don't know what will.

Again, it all lies down to a person's preferences. Hence why it is debateable. Same applies to the Playstation 2. Personally, I enjoyed my Gamecube more than my Playstation 2. I'm sure that people like the Playstation 2 better. Others, the Xbox.

What games? Enlighten me.

The Twin Snakes was not crap. It was awesome, though the cutscenes were rather lacking :(

No, it was crap. The gameplay was broken. The used the MGS2 engine, but didn't tweak the A.I, the level design or the boss characters for it. Everything was way too easy - case in point, the Ocelot and Raven fights.

I like to forget that Capcom decided to be *****ers and port Resident Evil 4.

So you want to bury your head in the sand and not face reality? Fine by me.

It was great dammit :cmad:. That said, the camera in the game sucked though.

I take it you're not allowed to legally drink, watch porn, R-rated movies or buy M-rated games? Then it's perfectly fine for you to like Mario Sunshine.

It was worse than the first. It got worse reviews. Sold less. Underwhelming.

Wait a minute, you count the multiplatform Resident Evil 4 against the Gamecube but the multiplatform Splinter Cell games for the Xbox.

Umm, bubby, the Xbox versions of the Splinter Cell games had much superior visuals thanks to bump mapping, real-time lighting, and vertical shaders alongwith better online play. The GC and PS2 versions also got crap reviews.

Please, I played both games on both consoles and aside minor texture differences, you can't tell both versions apart. Tell me, without looking at the the links themselves, which one is GC and which one is PS2?

Like you yourself said, the GC was stuffed with fruity first party Nintendo titles. Aside from that, it had dick. The Xbox had great first party AND third party support and it's catalog had a lot more variety in genres. So no, it is NOT debatable that the Xbox had a superior library of games compared to the GC.

And how has that changed drastically? Microsoft is still the leader in online console gaming with Xbox Live proving the best experience by a significant margin, compared to the cookie-cutter plans of Sony and Nintendo.

But then again, the 360 right now has a 7 and 8 million lead over the Wii and the PS3 respectively. And this is despite "losing in a major market". MS in "third position" my ass. People have been saying that since the launch of the Xbox but apparently some people just don't seem to learn.

Damn, well put, completely agree.

Not to but in or anything or take sides, which I am not. But the 360 does have a 12 month lead and in those 12 months, 13 now, it has sold something like 8,672,000 plus units. The Wii has only been out a month and has already sold 1,797,000 plus units.

So the year lead launch obviously benefits the 360. But it did also the PS3, either way I hope the PS3 dies and burns in flames, unfortunately I don't think the zealot fan boys will allow it to happen.

Although I do hope that the Wii sells extremely well. I don't care if it's #1 or #2, but I hope it sells well enough to make sony re-think their approach.

I know the 360 has been out for 12 months and I know the Wii's sales figures. But consider this - the 360 also sold more than 1.5 million units in Q4 2005, despite production woes and short supplie in face of extremely high demand. Which is why the Wii's sales figures aren't all that impressive to me.

And again, my point is that people who keep on saying the 360 will come in 3rd need to get their heads checked and pay attention to the sales figures. I don't give a **** if you think the 360 has had an advantageous start and whatnot. They can't come in 3rd this generation, not with such a significant lead over it's competitors.

Ummmm, having been out for a year longer than the other consoles on the market, that's to be expected. We'll see what the figures look like a couple of years down the line. I don't expect the 360 will have a 7/8 million lead by that point in time.

Well it certainly won't be in third place either.

Great logic there :o
Well it is Horrorfan. :woot:

Still he's not completely wrong. Games that would appeal to the older siblings/parents of the 12 yearolds who own GC's were few and far between. Not counting dumbed down Xbox/PC ports or slightly beefed up PS2 ports.

Those would be,
Eternal Darkness
MGS:Twin Snakes (damn good porting you can all shut it!)
Metroid Prime (I never could get into the "Nintendoing" of FPS controls, was BS)
Super Smash Brothers: Melee

Whoa easy Fenrir, I was just stating. But also consider this, the other reason the 360 sold 1.5 million units in Q4 05, is because it was the only next gen option, now with three options out it is even more impressive, IMHO that the Wii has sold so many units thus far.

I'm not arguing against you, I hope that the PS3 crashes and burns a horrible death.
