I'd rather they leave this franchise alone after the remake flopped.

Ghostbusters never needed to be continued in film. They couldn't get a cast reunion together outside the video game and after Harold Ramis died any idea about a third film should have been put to rest. They had plenty of material to work with the franchise in other mediums. It didn't need saving as a film franchise. It left enough of a legacy as a pop culture icon of the 80s to stay as a two film series. The problem is film studios are too greedy for their own good and think that established franchise films coming back hold some kind of guaranteed profit margins based on brand name alone. Nobody is smart enough to look at a brand like Ghostbusters and properly and efficiently determine the best ways to utilize it based on the fanbase and the legacy it holds.

Look at Back to the future as an example of utilizing the brand in ways that don't mess with the legacy it left. They show enormous respect to their fanbase coming out with different merchandise and apparel and media over the years. They know you can't recreate the magic they had so they let the franchise live on through the fans love of the trilogy. Ghostbusters did so well with the video game. They gave their fans something so authentic and respectful to the films that it's such a shame they had to go the route they did for GB2016 in order to bank off its name. No respect, no love, no passion for a beloved property. Completely shameful.

They need to leave this franchise alone in favor of new franchises like John Wick and it died with Harold Ramis.

BttF has the advantage of the director being flat out against any remakes as long as he's alive. Otherwise, they'd probably be messing with that, too.

Agree that the world doesn't need a Ghostbusters universe. Modern audiences love the original but aren't eager to see it go anywhere else.

I think that there is potential for a Cinematic Universe, the basics of Ghostbusters gave it the possibility...expanding the Brand would be nice.
Im not a fan of leaving such things a thing of the past forever, i like to see new approaches to franchises etc.

But i dont know if Ghostbusters is one that could be something like that.
I didnt thought the new Ghostbusters movie was "that" bad...but i was also not a movie that was long in my mind because of the characters or the world...it was mainly in my mind because of the whole "controversy" and all that.

I dont know, im torn on such things.

I would rather they leave it alone also BUT...I'd be okay with it if two things happen.

Reitman plays a major role in the creative process AND if they reverse retcon GB so that the original members are still around and are able to properly pass the torch to a new team like Reitmann originally planned. Seeing as how the lady GBs was so recent that probably won't happen though.

LOL

They had their shot at a cinematic universe with the latest GB film. All they had to do was make it a spin-off instead of a reboot. So f***ing easy to do.....but noooo, Sony just couldn't resist.

I read that they put the all Ghostbusters Universe aside the moment the remake tanked.

The movie was crap, the idea was crap.
To make it about "girl power" was the most ridiculous thing i ever saw.
I'm really glad the movie was a gigantic failure.

Sony is full of dumb ideas that never materialize. Their film division will be finished within a decade, maybe sooner.

It would be so easy to make Ghostbusters 3. Just copy the idea from Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon. The old team or just one of them trains a new team. They could just replace Egon with Ray. It would bring a new team but would still be called GB3. It could be awesome and easy money because fans would be happy. Only thing is that it might be too late. It should have been done before that stupid reboot.

This isn't really new.

Sony has been tossing this around for a while.

Sony is just full of brilliant ideas lately.

Who agrees this franchise should be left alone in favor of new franchises like John Wick and all and this franchise died with Harold Ramis?

I liked the reboot, so I'm totally cool with more Ghostbusters.

I seriously thought some troll bumped a thread when I first saw the title. Then I looked at the date.

:loco:

There's a way to do it. Personally I'd say extend Original films 1 & 2 with Oscar corresponding with Egon. Then Egon is in an accident. Oscar digs out the tech and talks to the old team. Ray makes some one off comment about selling the rights to try and keep the business afloat, and there being a horrible movie about them where they all turned into women.

Mixed team 2 guys 2 girls. All Oscars friends or colleagues, Ray and Winston mentor. Ray from his occult book store, Winston started a company building engineering prototypes. If Murray's in he's in if not oh well. You would need Sigourney Weaver too but that's about it. Then start your new "universe" there, and don't sign all of Oscar's friends up as comic relief.

You also need someone more adept at this type of humor than Fieg. This isn't his style. In all honesty I could see Raimi doing this.

Sad part is they're even running out of time on this one. Oscar was born 88/89, That makes him 28/29 now and in 2 years he's 30 plus.

NO! let this and the Terminator franchise die already, like i mentioned Ghostbusters died with Harold Ramis and Hollywood needs to do new franchises. These two franchises should be left to rest in peace in favor of new franchises, let old glory rest, it's earned it, find new glory.

All of these recent announcements feel like the last gasps of a dying company.
