The Amazing Spider-Man SONY stops paying for 3D glasses...what does this mean?

I wish I had seen Avatar in 3D. The place I went to doesn't have 3D. :(

3D certainly has come far these days. Remember Spy Kids 3D?
Directors have certainly gotten the right idea how to use it in more subtle ways to enhance the feeling that you are actually there, rather than OMFG LOOK THAT HAND IS COMING RIGHT FOR YOU!!1!!1!
There was a shot in the last Harry Potter that did this particularly well, it was towards the beginning and it was of Snape's back as he looks out from a castle window. It was simply beautiful.
However, the glasses are kind of an annoyance, and I really don't like what they do to the color. I've actually been curious as to if the movie is adjusted to make up for the dark lenses? perhaps someone can enlighten me.
Anyways, to the issue at hand, I've always been annoyed at the fact that you have to pay $5 more for a 3D movie, and now if they raise it even more, to where youre paying an extra 75% to see the exact same movie that looks slightly nicer, I'm not sure I'm going to be heading to many 3D movies.
IMAX is always an exception. But if that ever reaches a point of $20 tickets, maybe not so much.

3D movies are much brighter than they are in standard definition to make up for the dark lenses. If you keep the glasses off during the 3D previews and look at them in comparison to the regular trailers, you'll see the screen is much brighter.

Does anyone here wear eyeglasses? I want to know how uncomfortable it is to wear 3D glasses over regular eye glasses. Or if that's even possible at all xD

I used to wear glasses, and going to 3D movies was always kind of a hassle because of it. If you've got a really thin head, it won't be a problem, and if you don't, it still shouldn't be that bad. Just slip them over your regular glasses and don't move your head around very much.

I wear glasses, but I don't go to 3D movies.

It's alright. I have a big head and it feels weird at first, but I get used to it pretty quickly.

Still will watch Spidey in 3D just for the experience but also in 2D

To answer your question, yes. I didn't particularly like Avatar and probably would have slept through a majority of it if I saw it in 2D. However, I was too busy saying "Holy **** I feel like I'm there" to really even care how boring the story itself was. Which brings me back to my point that 3D can absolutely help make a film better.

Its kind of a negative to say that 3D can help make a film better instead of say enhancing it. I agree that I would've been bored with Avatar if I didn't see it in 3D, probably why I haven't seen it again since.

I think Avatar is very lame in the way it copies Poccahontas. Nothing is really original in Avatar.

Chaseter, grow up

Lend me $5 so I can see this in 3D.

I absolutely hate Avatar and James Camerons delusions that 3D is anything but a gimmick, but I'll probably see this one in 3D and encourage others to, simply because I want the movie to do well.

Aluchak, grow up.

I was responding to your responses on the first page to the guy who posted the leonidas picture. You've obviously got no sense of humor

I really think that this movie is going to be amazing in 3D. Spidey's a perfect character to do it for, too! I'll definitely be watching it in 3D, regardless of having to pay extra.

Erm. We're always charged extra (in the UK) for glasses.

They're around 80p. So, I'm guessing it'll be around a dollar in America. You can re-use your old ones if you've gotten them before...so what's the big fuss? :S

There's no big fuss with me, 3D is always extra anyway. Do the Real 3D glasses work with IMAX 3D, though? Because that's how I plan to watch this movie.

Whenever I go to 3d movies(Which I hardly do) I keep my glasses. So I've got glasses lying around already. This isn't a big deal at all. Certain people are just making one out of it.

I'm pretty sure they don't. They always give and take back IMAX 3D glasses at the end of the movie where I live.

Lets see what the theater owners had to say:

Lets see what happened to the markets that day:

Lets see what film junkies think about it:

Please excuse me for...cough...overreacting. :o And one of these for good measure:dry: You know the recycling box outside of the theater...maybe instead of just keeping the glasses for no reason what so ever, like you mentioned that you did, you could recycle them and help Sony curb some of the costs of paying for the glasses. I would say that was probably a factor in this decision. Good job!

The overall price is going to be like what, 60-80 cents more?

I still don't get what some people here are worried about.

You're cool with paying about an extra 2 dollars for a 3D movie, but 60-80 cents more is a dealbreaker? Unless I'm missing something. :S
